    Hello,
The manual-focus macro mode seems to further enhance the usefulness of the RF 24-105 STM as a general purpose lense.
    Impressions of this function?

I'm not expecting it for perform as well as an RF or EF 100mm or a Laowa macro lens but the 1:2 maximum magnification ratio would be handy for flowers and slow moving insects.

I had an STM kit lens when I owned my 7D Mark II. That particular lens was all fly by wire, so manual focus worked very poorly: Every time the camera meter timed out, the manual focus setting would reset. It made lens calibration much more difficult. Does your STM lens have this issue?

I don't currently have the RF 24-105 STM. When the EOS R8 arrives, I'll use an EF 24-105 F4/L with the adapter. The RF STM version will be added later. The macro feature recently caught attention as it would be a function I would use if the images are reasonable sharp.

    Thanks.

The lens Marshall is referring to is not the same as the RF 24-105 f4-71. If you are talking about the RF lens, it has some extreme macro capabilities than can be used in manual mode only. The corners are very blurry and only the center portion is sharp.

    I uploaded 3 samples below, at f4, f10 and at f6.3.

Many thanks for uploading the samples. My plan is to eventually get an actual macro lense but the RF 24-105 STM could be useful in the short term. Blurry corners would not be an issue for me.

Even without the super macro function, it focus at 15cm which is kind of unique for a zoom. My RF 35mm also focuses at 15cm. Highly recommended!!
