    It is now a pier for tourist boats only. At first it was for boats transporting port wine from the production area to the aging and bottling cellars in Vila Nova De Gaia. These boats are the ones you see in the foreground. They used to go down the Douro River (about 100 km), taking advantage of the current, and up the river, pulled by oxen from the river banks.

    Very nice. Interesting description. I like the reflection from either the sunrise orsunset on the river.
