Came across this, a little bit concerning for those that may happen to own one arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/05/sandisk-extreme-ssds-keep-abruptly-failing-firmware-fix-for-only-some-promised/
I've just been re-using M.2 SSD's in the appropriate enclosure myself, as I'm not really concerned about the absolute latest bleeding edge tech, but worth keeping in mind.

Interesting - I have a bunch of the Samsung equivalents that have given no problems to date

you certainly heard about Samsung issues = www.techspot.com/news/97476-samsung-980-pro-has-nasty-firmware-glitch-could.html ? Samsung is as bad as any other vendor out there - they all have issues that can render your SSD dead w/ no option to recover

I've had two different Samsung SSD drives fail on my computers. One (early 960? Pro M2) developed some strange intermittent failures at boot - if it was detected, then it worked ideally; another (840 Evo SATA) started to get some nasty read errors, but we could read out most data from it and after recommended firmware update it likely started to work flawlessly. 840 was one with such initial firmware, which lost track after drive filling up more than 95% or so.

No other problems with plenty of different Samsung SSDs on other (mine and co-workers) computers so far.
Because we here do not buy almost any SSD drives from other brands, then I really can't comment on other manufacturer SSD problems. Few old Intel SSDs are working well too.
