One from today. I used a 590nm filter on my Nikon D810.

I typically try to feature IR subjects as the dominant compositional element, but sometimes it's nice to use as an accent. Full spectrum conversion, 720nm filter, post-processing in LR.

Canon M6, 590nm. I got anxious as I saw these clouds while walking my dogs many miles away. I finally got home, drove about 20 minutes and captured these.

I posted these in the color section, but also converted them to B&W. So, here they are.

Thanks, I was lucky to have unusually strong sunshine for a UK evening, so it was just crying out for IR. 😋

A couple local scenes from today since I was out testing my new setup. I had my Nikon Z7 converted to full spectrum and I have been testing the Tamron 17-35mm f2.8-4 OSD and the Nikon af-s 24-120mm f4g ed vr lens. The Tamron is giving me a faint hotspot even with the Kolari HSK clip-in filter. The Nikon 24-120 is working great with no hotspots and very good sharpness across the frame from about 35mm to 105mm.

Very nice! I was thinking of converting a Z7. But, I read you could pick up horizontal stripes from the on sensor focusing. I do not see this in you images. So, I don't know what the complaint is! Maybe it only appears under certain exposure settings and / or filter used? Anyway, something to be aware of.

Here is an article that explains the problem: Banding

Yep, I am aware of the issue and have seen it in my images. I am using Topaz Denoise AI to deal with it and it seems to be working okay for me. It's not very prominent unless you are looking at your image at 100%. Here's an example. It can get worse depending on how much you play with the exposure and lift shadows in post.

Just another reason to get Topaz Denoise AI. I did not realize it would fix the problem. Maybe at some time, I may have that Z7 converted.

I took this image as I was testing out the Nikon Z 14-30mm. I used the tree to shield the sun but I still got a faint hotspot in the image. Since I converted it to B&W you can't tell there is a hotspot. I feel like I got the hotspot because I was shooting towards the sun which I wouldn't normally do for infrared.

I will say I love the 14-30mm f4 lens. I think it doesn't have the greatest edge performance from 14-16mm but it's not distractingly bad. The image quality in the middle 80% is quite good at that range. Anything above that and I'm quite happy. At 30mm it's still pretty good but not great overall. Still, I'm using a Z7 which is really showing the limitations.

Overall, I am really happy I got the 14-30mm.
