Thank you. No - lefteye has mentioned that as well. And I think you're both correct.

I'm not fully sure how to fix is, but here's a version without it:

Why anything "DPR" at all. Maybe it's just a me thing.

    Yessir!!!

    You got it!!

Make a little Darker/Lighter "Digital Photography" -in the inversed background- and we have a winner.

In my eyes, the Revived is now completely subjugated to the true meaning.

( before it was jumping out as "revived" - yes, ok. Revived what?)

  • April 8, 2023, 12:05 p.m.

No, this is not only 'you thing' - I would welcome breaking off from DPRwhatever too. But in current state of affairs this DPR thing means strong connection with dpreview and will help dpr refugees find their place in the sun etc etc :)
Otherwise I would suggest something like fisheye forums or photosite dot com or similar.

This is a very good idea and design - if there'd be a poll, my vote would go to this approach. It works today, it would have worked in the 1980's, and it probably will still work in the 2030's. It has brand-logo potential.

In addition, it would be very easy to replace the "revived" with a different, similar-looking expression later without disturbing the overall logo design. The other suggested designs would need an overhaul once the "revived" bit no longer fits the site.

The 'lens-logo' has an obvious justification, this design is ok of the 'lens' versions, but does look very dated - and corporate in a office kind-way (I'm thinking of early laser printer logos). Somehow big business, not so much community. If it was brought up to date, and be timeless, then it might be more in the running to me.

At present simplejoy's infinity logo just looks so much fresher, appealing, professional and inviting. The infinity swirl feels inclusive and 'pulling together'.

    This stood out to me.

I have to admit that it reminds of a laser-printer brand... I still find it appealing though - I'm a baby-boomer and have grown up with such logos after all!
There still is the advantage of easy later replacement of the "revived", which would be difficult on the other suggested options.

  • April 8, 2023, 3:59 p.m.

Despite the good vibes I'm getting from simplejoy's infinity logo, REVIVED is too prominent there (it would be fine if 'revived' actually meant something we wanted to be super prominent though). The lens design of ArvoJ is ok - as a basic sketch, it just needs a fresher treatment, too old-school and dated in it's present incarnation. Simplejoy seems to have the touch for making things look great, so I wonder if simplejoy might want a crack at it? - or somehow reducing the prominence of REVIVED in the infinity version.

Anyway, many thanks to all of the community for working on this, it's not lost time, I think the team are taking note.

Not only laser-printer, they produce servers and other such things too.
It is always problem with some graphic idea already used - I would like to use red dot somewhere, but on photography equipment forums it is red herring or something. Then bayer matrix cell could be used, but this looks too windows-like.
Well, next one (based on lefteye edits) is not so hp-ish, unfortunately I don't like it myself - presented here just as an idea.

I keep going back to this basic version, says 'dp' and lenses - but not too much, doesn't show off in any kind of way, just is, immediate, no tricks to wonder about :

but maybe this is going back to square-one with not enough jazz? - which could be true - on the other hand it's always worth referring back to the start after getting more complex, just to recalibrate the eyeballs.

    That's much better!

Can I has some vector version of it - just to play a bit? If yes, send me PM.

The dropped shadow looks too photoshopy. lol

  • April 8, 2023, 5:55 p.m.

    Yes :)

I think we have got answers to many different questions - simple one-word textual logo (dpREVIVED) (with dp as text or dp as icon), just graphical icon (dp) or full logo with icon and text (dp DIGITAL PHOTGRAPHY REVIVED). Maybe we should clarify, what is actually needed - all three variants or only one or some combination of those.

I am curious why word revived is there. Digital Photography was and is alive and well. Why should it be revived?

Yep. Several of us have made that point.

It's presumably meant to mash together the components of "DPR Revived", which makes short term sense as people are looking for somewhere to migrate to with the termination of DPR. But that will make less and less sense with the passage of time.

And meanwhile, as you say, the truncated form implies a different meaning altogether - that digital photography needs to be revived and that this site will somehow do it. Both propositions are beyond tenuous (laughable, even).

In short, the current name is perhaps an acceptable place to be for the immediate future, but not necessarily for the medium or long term. Interestingly, the starter of this thread seems to have been thinking along those lines, but has since begun vociferously arguing the opposite. Go figure. ; )

How about combining the "corporate logo laser printer" version from above with the infinity symbol from the other suggestion from below? How would this, or any creative adjustment to it, look like? (sorry, my imagination is somewhat limited to see this by myself)
