So far the best and the less complicated.

    We don't need lenses

    ( sure, I do need spectacles )

Lately I haven’t been following dprevived any longer, I’m still copying data of personal interest from DPReview. But I also have nothing to add anymore; I like the effort of simplejoy best so far.

I completely agree. I'm very pleased to see this site and very grateful to those who put in so much work to get it established in very little time. But DP Revived as a branding makes no sense to anyone other than refugees from DP Review. If you were interested in cameras or digital photography and looking for related sites to explore, unless you knew about it, I don't think DP Revived tells any newbie what it actually does - however nice the graphic design and artwork is. I don't think the name makes sense in anything other than the very immediate term. It needs to do what it says on the tin.....

I mean... perhaps we just have to go ALL IN on the "Revived" part:

    😂 (Just kidding of course!)

The second one beat everything I saw as a logo.

    NO KIDDING

    1) Try to forget it !
    2) Humor is a serious thing
    3) Being able not to take seriously yourself is a great message
    4) Yes, we are trying to revive this sector

    0) the average age of THIS forum users is a telltale

I'm one of the newest addition to "People with a Camera in his Hands"
the others have that covered "It's in a drawer"

    Say, do we have 10 people under 20 - 20 people under 40 ??

( not all the questions are really in need of an answer )

I am quite happy with the name of this site. I have memorised it. There are quite a few other sites using DP in their name that are trying to attract former DPReview.com users. I find this very confusing and, if the name of this site were to be changed in these circumstances, things would be worse!

Let's just concentrate on building up threads that are relevant to photography, and thereby attract new and valuable members.

    :) :) :)

I also like the second one with the embedded angel.

I'll through this thought out there. For the majority of us here now and others soon to join when (and if??) DPReview does shut down, the name DPRevived has meaning. But as the years go by and folks new to photography find this site (hopefully) they might wonder, "Revived, what does revived mean? Was digital photography dead?" They'll have no reference.

But also, I'm not sure it feels right to tie this site's existence (via its name) to the demise of a previous one. Why not a fresh start with a new name that has no connection to this painful chapter in our lives. (sarcasm mode on/off for that last phrase).

I know, I'm the only one that's thinking like this. Feel free to ignore.

If I got it right: "reflex" camera body sales went down by 93% (SLR+DSLR+ML) in last 15 years.

That's the reason the second logo is perfect !!!

Like this - simple, elegant and I think both are needed (one for dark theme).
and yes, digital photography (and photography in general) is under threat. Yes, you can be progressive and think of smartphones as cameras but the fact that (proper) camera sales are dwindling is an issue - If this site made focus on proper cameras its goal then the revived in the name will continue to be relevant.

I think we (Bob) chose the name to provide those emigrating from DPReview with something vaguely familiar. The site has become way more popular than we could have envisaged. Changing the name now is probably not that easy (although it could be done and everyone would eventually get used to it).

But is "Digital Photography Revived" such a bad name? It's a restart, and a reassurance that digital photography is on the way back from the doldrums and we are reinvesting in the ideals of DP. [Maybe we should grab dpreinvested.com as well 😁]

    We aren't ignoring you.

We've also got DPRev.com. If people really think that 'DPRevived' is an issue, them we can do a Coca-Cola, transfer to the short form over time.

I get it. That name does have its purpose. It's the Revived part that seems odd to me. Since digital photography started, film has been declining and digital has been on the rise (especially if you include phones). Relative to other formats (film) I didn't know it was in the doldrums. Now maybe photography with cameras as opposed to phones has been in decline and, hopefully, is on the rise again but digital photography as a format, I don't see it.

  • April 21, 2023, 8:09 p.m.

I think digital photography as camera users (as opposed to phone users) know it, was on the decline - due to the advance of phones with cameras. But I think the trend is reversing as the "influencers" in social media find out what you can do with a decent camera.

I haven't read through the entire thread, so not quite sure what the consensus is, but I think DPRevived is a great name for the site. I don't see any need to change it.
