The conspiracy theorists / flat earthers might see this one as proof there are alien life forms or that the guberment is surveilling us with mechanical insects...
This guy had taken off / landed a few times on the same perch and I had taken a few of him but never noticed anything amiss until I reviewed at home... I imagine that would have been courtesy of a bird getting just a little too close for comfort.
¡Hola Bryan! Yes, they're small, about half the size of a "normal" bee. I think they live underground, and it's not uncommon to find them asleep on a flower...

Those flies are real killers, and it's not uncommon to find them eating another fly or some small insect 😬
It's a pity some of it was out of frame, but you did a good job with the stacking, and handled the some harsh light conditions well…
Given the circumstances, it was a one-shot window of a few seconds, it was either this or nothing, with no way to change the enlarging ratio, the angle for the shot, or even different camera settings.
I was working on another subject nearby, with a large, heavy 3D system mounted with difficulty on a tripod among the bushes, and the fly settled there. I just managed to carefully turn the equipment towards it, fire a burst, and it was gone in the act.😁
