Do that variety sway back and forth imitating a twig in a breeze?
They mostly do nothing. They just look like twigs. They are still for very long periods. I was about to swept this guy off the wall and realized he was not a real stick.
Very pretty Bryan, I especially like the look of the wings, the reticulated structure and its almost "plastic" coating…
These bugs are truly amazing and, as Bryan mentioned, if we don't see more of them it's possibly because of their incredible camouflage...
As much as I would prefer to think of them as glass rather than plastic, similar to what I mentioned about Monarch wings, Dragonfly wings are very shiny and see-through when they first emerge. Over time they become less so from marks and scratches and bits go missing from predators trying to catch them. So I find them more photogenic at that earlier age.
Beautiful - love the colors and light.

That looks amazing, beautifully lit!
Thank you for the appreciation (it applies to all).🙂
These things are so amazing to me..
Awesome capture. I've only seen one of these guys in the wild. Of course there is no telling how many I've overlooked. They truly blend in.

None flying yet but some perching
Fine images. Don't think I've ever seen the second one while out and about.

Thanks Barrondia...
There aren't many Australian dragonflies that are found elsewhere in the world. Some also throughout Asia and only one I am aware of that exists here, in Asia and into Europe and northern Africa (Slender Skimmer or Green Marsh Hawk). We have 325 of ~ 3,000 global species and of those 325 I have only seen maybe a dozen or so.
This one, believe it or not, is a juvenile Blue Skimmer and will change colour as it matures.
It is interesting seeing the different colour combinations of the different species in other continents.
Common Glider - with ON1's Brilliance AI enhancing the colours (mostly the background which was a lighter, muddier shade before...)
This is "The One". A masterpiece!👍👍👍
