We have a few similar species with those wonderful blends of blues and purples. Very hard to catch - they mostly close as soon as they land and fast, random flutterers making in flight very challenging

Around here they are also called March flies, because they usually appear in spring, and I suppose European settlers carried that name there. Maybe you should call them September flies 😀 -
We should call them Sept-to-May flies as they will be around that long...
