There are some reads about 2 feet high just off the bank that some of the dragonflies like perching on. I have been trying to lie down on my belly to get lower than them for a looking up shot. But not much success yet...
It is pretty much impossible when they are zooming around so I am always waiting for them to hover a bit. Even then there isn't a very good keeper rate because they still move about while hovering. Some days are better than others and it is just good luck that my favourite and the most photogenic, the Australian Emerald, hovers a lot.
Yesterday I took some video clips. Reviewing them I was thinking oh my god my hands are terribly shaky but the background was fine - I hadn't realised how much they move about - dprevived.com/t/video-editing/7690/
Thanks a lot! Yes, I always mention the lens used in my descriptions on flickr. I‘ve shot this one with a Kuribayashi A.C. Petri Orikkor 4.5 cm f/1.9 (reversed). Not a dedicated macro lens but I always enjoy experiments like that.
