    Hello Sony fans.

Based on previous discussion in different forums, I am stepping back to look at my ways with photography and on the possibility to change gear/brands.

My final destination for camera body might be slightly higher resolution (30Mpx+) with IBIS (supported with fairly sharp prime lenses).
My current budget leads me to Sony A7R III (although It´s not firm budget, and other features, specs and supportive gear might have a word).
I see that this one has pixel shift technology. That sounds great for my needs, but given the dpreview´s review, it is quite flawed.
First it takes time, is not great for scene changes, and needs in-PC processing. Oh well, Maybe I could make do, I don´t know yet.
But what strikes me is the dpreview test scene - normal mode and pixel shift mode. The outcome looks horrendous. Weird abberation-like artifacts giving that 3D look of the 3D TV/cinema. Can anyone say something about that, and talk about the real world experiences with pixel shift?

I do not have to buy the best body yet. I could make do with A7R or EOS R or whatever. The lenses and supportive gear are the true commitment...

I know Canon is trying too, and I have closer to Canon. On the other side, RF mount has nothing much at all for me. Bigger bodies, lower resolutions, not very tempting lenses, or insanely expensive. So, I am looking around.
At the moment I was thinking I was building early EOS M collection, but I might not so...
I had Sony and Nikon FF before.
Any word of recommendation is greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Thanks. Being dev in electronics, with focus on sound, light, measuring and processing, I have general knowledge about all this. It's just the Dpreview results that put me off.

So it seems they did some mistake in their testing, as your real world examples do not show such fault. Great. 👍

I also wonder why A7R IV/V do not have this color shift.

It matters what tools you use for reconstruction. The original Sony tools horrendously oversharpened. With decent reconstruction tools, there is no reason to have color shifts.

I have a A7Rii, so no pixel shift. But I do have a Lumix G9 with in camera pixel shift (pixel shift mode produces a standard raw + 80MP pixel shifted raw). In camera PS is a great convenience and the production of a standard raw as well makes for easy comparison. The G9 also offers motion compensation, so you don't get artefacts.

I think there are 3rd party pixel shift utilities available if the Sony software is not to your taste. Jim knows this stuff, he has tested it thoroughly.

MFT is out of question, but thank you for informative response. At least I have all time I need to decide. Now it looks between Sony and Canon. Hate both with passion though. 🤭😂

Probably not your cup-of-tea either, but Panasonic S-series seem to have the best implementation, AFAICT. Used S1R can be found quite cheap. EF-mount lenses usually adapt quite well with Sigma MC-21, if you have EF lenses around.

Yes, I hate Panasonic too. 😂🤭
Bought some for a company I used to work.
Menus are a disaster, focus stacking not very good, and all affordable models are 24Mpx to my knowledge. So they are out too.
I didn't mention nikon - they are in the shadow. Had one FF, had some issues with the system, but they are not out of picture yet.

You may want to look at a Pentax K1 although I shoot with a Sony A7R IV.

That is a NO-GO on many levels, but thank you. 😉
