Tried using a couple of generic flashes today on an old Sony F828, but they were unresponsive. Did Sony have some sort of priority with flashes on their old Cybershot units? Might there be something I need to turn on/off? Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Is the main ( centre) contact on the flashes foot lining up correctly with the contact on the camera ?
Are the contacts clean on both the camera and the flash ?
You often get a tarnish buildup on the camera side that prevents good contact.The only Cybershot camera I've had is the R1 , so I'm not sure how it goes on with third party flash .
I have an OEM flash that works fine , and I thought I'd used a Metze flash with a standard single point contact.
But that was a good number of years back , so could be wrong.
