When I was growing up, part of the lore that older kids passed along to us was the knowledge that "whitehead" bumblebees (those with a yellow patch on the face) don't sting. Armed with that knowledge, we'd catch them. And for me, there was always a split second of apprehension each time I reconfirmed the no-sting wisdom. This stingless fellow was on some purple dead nettle in our backyard this morning.
