Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the shuttering of DPReview, the last Sunday Cat! was hosted there on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

    Hopeful Kitty of the Week!
    Next door Kitty

The kitty from next door to @WhyNot hopes not to be seen. It didn't work. ;)

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and stories of your feline companions with us."

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras welcome. Images from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge where nice comments abound and only constructive criticism is given when it's requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for business. :D

    Malbec's silent meow
    Silent meow.jpg

This cat makes two noises, purring and snoring. He does a lot of both. From time to time he attempts to meow, but no noise comes out.

Nice capture of a brief moment in time. :) (I find this kind of shot a hard thing to do.) Nice looking teeth too!

I had a kitty, Peaches, who for several months after coming to my home would not make a sound. For a while I thought she was mute. Eventually though she did start to make audible meows and after that she never looked back. In her case I think it was because she was a feral kitten captured almost too late to be socialized, so she behaved like a feral cat! Of course that doesn't mean that some kitties cannot speak, but hers was an interesting case.

Funny, I hadn't thought of Kliban's cats in a very long time. You made me make a trip to my bookshelf to pull out my very beat up copy of Kliban's "Cat" book. :) Yes, you're absolutely right! Annie must have seen the book too. ;)

Nice set! Love the colors and the contrast in colors. And Kiki looks very interested, curious but maybe a little bit serious. She looks very comfortable with her harness and leash. I wish I had trained Mini-Me for that so he could enjoy outside again.

Caught in the act of grooming! I always love the immense detail in your photos. Perfect focus on the eyes and every hair sharp within the range of the depth of field. :)

That is interesting. We had another female cat, Mina, who did silent meows as well. However, Mina was very intelligent and her body language was very easy to read, so I wondered whether she didn't need to vocalise because she didn't have any trouble communicating. The only time she meowed, very loudly, was when she was about to be sick.

It sounds like Mina would have been a great actress in the silent film era. :)

Can there be anything more sublime than a cat in a moment of bliss?
