Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the shuttering of DPReview, the last Sunday Cat! was hosted there on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

Thread Manager's Corner:
In the US this is a three day holiday weekend and the start of the summer season. A time for travel and leaving our kitties at home. But we may meet kitties elsewhere, and of course there is our photo archive to dip into. :) So this week could be quiet, like Malbec's meow, or a time of exploration like Kiki's afternoon walk. And maybe the photos will find their way here. :D

Though small in size, the imprint they make on our lives is huge.

This is Willow. She will be 5 years old next month. I adopted her, her mom and her sister from my vet when she and her sister were 8 weeks old. As you can see she can get comfortable in some unusual positions.

Lexi left side next to Arni. Next week they will be 1 year old! We will have a party inviting all their cat friends over. That would be Mokey who sometimes loves them and other times, perhaps, not so much. Such is being a cat. Lexi and Arni have been the most mischievous, entertaining and loving cats I can imagine. Willow is yet another exemplar of kitties finding comfort in the craziest positions! I guess they wouldn't do it if it didn't feel good. ;) That's some story, adopting an entire family like that. It's good that you could kept them all together. They received a rare gift.

Yet another pose we can only admire but not emulate. :)

Together, they are a contrasting pair, reflecting the diversity of their kind. :) Hopefully there will be a good serving of catnip at the party!

Poppy left us several years ago after a 3 year battle with Lymphoma. We shared 14 wonderful years with her. She was very gentle, an old soul even when she was a kitten.

She was a house cat, but was allowed to go out into our back yard and garden. She understood that she wasn't supposed to leave the yard, and often sat at the open-structure wrought iron gate that she easily could have stepped through, calmly watching the world go by.

One day she went out and wandered a few feet to our neighbor's lawn. I saw her and yelled, "Poppy!," in feigned disapproval. She came racing back, acting contrite, and never did that again.

Here, she's being a wild kitty, roaming through the tall grasses in the yard.

We miss her.

It's funny how Mr Me (Mini-Me) did something somewhat similar on Sunday, twice. He used to have outdoor privileges, but he lost them when he got into a terrible fight in January this year and was healing for a month after that. Mr P (Palmer) is allowed to go outside as he's not a troublemaker. So while I was outside with Mr P, Mr Me slid open the screen door and let himself out, twice! Each time though, I gave chase, expecting him to run away and jump over the fence. But instead he just ran for a bit, then stopped and hunkered down, apparently waiting for me to pick him up and put him back inside. Unlike Poppy, he is not a gentle soul, so yelling at him doesn't work. But for some reason his off switch kept on being triggered and he was easily collected.

She looks every bit the predator in your image. One wouldn't guess at her gentle nature! Nicely done and a good way to memorialize her.

That's a wonderful tale about Mr. P and Mr. Me.

Poppy does look somewhat fierce in that image. But she really was the most gentle being. She had had one litter, probably at about 6 months old when we adopted her from a rescue center. She seemed to always stay in "mother mode." One day a juvenile rabbit came in the yard. She calmly picked it up by its scruff, carried it over to a sunny spot, and proceeded to thoroughly wash it and groom it, until she was satisfied all the grime of the outdoors was gone, then ushered it to the garden gate, where it slowly hopped away.

Poppy looks very confident and at ease as she looks out the window. I love the story of her caring for rabbit! Yes, it seems that mom cats can be very sweet and gentle and stay in "mother mode" whether it is for kittens or some other being. I had a similar experience with Cali. She was probably dumped by her owner when she became pregnant, and lived behind the local Walmart for a few years, having multiple litters. She was very wily, and very afraid of people, so she was a challenge to capture. She was trapped finally during her last pregnancy. I ended up taking her in when the person who had captured her could no longer keep Cali, or several other kitties. I had noticed that Cali was a constant companion to Sheila, another of the kitties that needed a home, so I paired Cali with Sheila to keep her comfortable.

After Sheila died Cali turned her attention to me because the other kitty in the house, Peaches, would have nothing to do with her. (Except that Peaches was one of the kittens from the next to the last of Cali's litters!) Eventually though Peaches came around and grew to like having mom care for her. :D

She was a small kitty but her purr was so big it could fill a room. Sometimes I'd find myself looking for the source of the purring only to find Cali at my feet looking up at me and purring away! Despite being abused in her early life she managed to hang onto her sweetness and was the most loving kitty I have ever known.

I am sorry that I was not exactly in great condition the past few weeks, so I skipped the whole forum for a while.

I think I am getting better now, so here comes "Century Egg" (aka "Fat Egg" 😂) again.

Whenever you can drop in is always just fine. :) Glad that you are getting better. I've been absent myself this week but not because of being unwell. Just too busy. :(
