Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the shuttering of DPReview, the last Sunday Cat! was hosted there on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

    Vibrant Kitty of the Week!

    Peanut

@AnnieNg's little emperor Peanut, uninterested in the camera but providing an opportunity to test recording his color accurately. These days indoors with various color temperatures from mixed lighting sources, it can be difficult to get accurate color rendition. This one looks pretty true to me! :)

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and stories of your feline companions with us."

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras welcome. Images from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge where nice comments abound and only constructive criticism is given when it's requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for business. :D

    Last week's purrs, #824 / DPRv #17

    Thread Manager's Corner:
As we enter the dog days of August, we hope that the Sunday Cats are not frightened away! Looking ahead to redesign here at DPRv, it looks like the current pet photography forum is going to be rolled into the portraits forum. I don't see that as a good fit if the Sunday Cat! was to move to a genre forum. Since a new forum can be requested later, I've decided to ride out the consolidation into the Olympus / OM Systems forum and wait and see how things go. I've looked across all the forums in the current high level Olympus, Panasonic and Micro Four Thirds forum and found that outside of @Maoby's astonishing collection of cameras, and the Weekly M4/3 Talk, there is little else happening here. With the Weekly M4/3 talk being moved to the Photography challenges & discussions forum, the Sunday Cat! would be the anchor of the new Olympus forum. :) I can't deny that I am also looking over to DPR and watching the activity there, however I also notice that after the initial activity of posting reviews that had been in progress before DPR was cut off at the knees, very little new material has been written. That leads me to question the strength of Gear Patrol's commitment to sustaining and building the DPR site. So we'll show some catlike patience and just observe for now. :D

    Hi,

What Fred does in the afternoon:

    IMG_20221217_145418_605.jpg

And, yes, you may give me a tummy rub.

Fred is what I call a CatDog. Follows me around the farm when he isn't sleeping.

My Mini-Me sometimes strikes a similar pose but it is absolutely not an invitation with him! It sounds like Fred is a hard working cat, but it looks like he also knows how to make the most of his moments of relaxation. ;)

    Hi,

Oh, Fred is my Guru of Comfort!

His current area of hard work is getting the moles who have invaded the back yard. Sits out there listening for hours. Gets one,.brings it in (because I might be hungry), eats some cat food (instead of that yucky mole), then hits the sack. As you can see.

Sounds like a good reward for a job well done!

If Fred is keeping your mole population under control, he definitely deserves his relaxation. Btw, does he bring them to you dead or alive?

    Hi,

Dead but still warm. Mmmm. Fresh Mole! :P

It was Casey, long ago, who liked to haul his catch in still alive so he could see what sort of fun his human would have with it. I don't think I have a pic of him. He was a 1980 kitten we had for 16 years.

It's good to see Thomas again! It's been a while. He looks a little surprised at being photographed but then goes back to looking at what interests him. Yes, he has a sweet look. The little girl looks like her personality is starting to shine as well. :)

    Hi,

You know, I am usually unaware of just which forum I am in. I usually pop in the Medium Format forum and then go to the Threads view. Where I see the Sunday Cat.

Glad it made it with the reorg. :)

I might look around my old shots. Meaning film. See how far back I can go with cats. Post the oldest one next Sunday and then come forward in time each week with another kitty.

In the meantime, here is Fred again:

This time he is inverted on his tower. But then a second shot where he rolled back over.

Well, they went in backwards from what I thought. Doesn't matter. Y'all get the picture. :P

I use the threads view a lot too. That's one thing that is real nice here at DPRv. That view across all the forums. I think that provides more visibility for the Sunday Cat! and makes the actual forum of residence less important.

I have some old photos too but finding them and then scanning them is a whole other matter. It's on the "one of these days" pile...

Fred seems to be very blissful at rest. :)

DPRv is also nice with its flexibility to edit and then preview. But it does get a little difficult to figure out what is going on when all you see is the code and not the image until you preview or post.
