Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the shuttering of DPReview, the last Sunday Cat! was hosted there on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

Feral Kitty of the Week!

Feral but friendly, this little girl who works on @palin0's farm, was hiding out on the July 9 page. All grown up now, she no longer takes a nap in a boot. :D But she can display her mom's sweetness in her look.

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and stories of your feline companions with us."

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. Snowflake. Another cat who just showed up here on the farm (Fred was also a show up).

We call her that because she is rather flakey. The snow part is obvious. ;)

Very nice. His face is spot on in focus with the body melting away into softness. That's what the ZD14-35 /f2 is for! :) It's interesting how his fur is flecked with white hairs. Most tuxedo cats that I know, the two residents here, have very little white in their fur besides the big white patches. It adds a lot of interest to his look.

Just about all of my kitties have been volunteers. Palmer was the most glaring example. When the neighbors packed up and left one night, he just packed up too and moved from next door to my yard! He's been here ever since 2009.

How is Snowflake's hearing? I know white cats with blue eyes can be deaf. That could certainly lead to some flakiness!

Flake (as we usually call her) hears fine. She's just afraid of just about everything. I suppose because being all white makes her stand out. Obviously she isn't afraid in that shot.

I got to looking at my cat photo folder. I'm going to go backwards in time. There's one more kitty still with us I'll post next week. After that, they have all passed on. I don't seem to get more than 17 years from one.

This is Spike.
To be honest he wasn’t my cat but belonged to my girlfriend, but whenever I visited there was the ritual where he would look up at me as if to ask permission and then jump up on my lap, then make his way up my chest until his face was nuzzling into mine. Finally resting until the purring began.

Tomorrow (Monday) will be 3 years since he passed away in his 19th year. We all miss Spike more than we ever thought possible.

Sorry it’s a lousy quality photo but as with so many other things I wish we had taken more of him. But he deserves his place in cat history.

17 years is a good lifespan for a kitty. The oldest one I knew was in her 21st year when she passed. Most have been in the neighborhood of 15-16. The youngest was actually a pedigreed Maine Coon. I think she was only 12 or 13.

The oldest one I personally knew was 25 when he passed. Other than him, 16-17 has been the norm.

Kitties can sometimes live to grand old ages. In my book more than 17 is grand indeed. It sounds like Spike was a very loving fellow, and maybe the softness of the image can be thought of as a reflection of that aspect of his purr-sonality. :)

It's very appropriate for Thomas to visit us this week as Thursday was National Black Cat Day in the US. :) The sheen of his black coat captured here is one of the things that gives a black cat their own special look.
