Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the shuttering of DPReview, the last Sunday Cat! was hosted there on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

Lucky Kitty of the Week!

And I thought I was buried with work the prior week... A little while ago I was trying to comment on last week's thread when I was interrupted by a call from work! It's a frequently heard story, where the regular employees have to come to the rescue of the high paid consultants that have made a mess of things... Even Palmer and Mr. Me suffered this week. Dinner was very late at times and Palmer missed getting some of his meds. So I am very grateful for the visitors this past week, including the statuesque Street Cat of Istanbul that I didn't get to comment on before I was interrupted. There are more meetings tonight (it's still Saturday here) and probably several evenings this week, so I will entrust this week's Sunday Cat! to your care. :)

Another one from my Archives, of beloved Lady Gigi, Lord's Trim's sister.
It's almost 4 years since she left us, and I still miss her every day.
She was so full of love, mischief and joy.
She always looked as though she had a little smile on her dear face.

Next up by way of our kitties is Peanut. He was one of three kittens we picked up as a result of their mama cat not being able to produce enough milk. We referred to those three as Muzzleloaders, or Muzzies for short. That was back in 2006. They have all passed on. Two girls and one boy, Peanut.

The first one we lost was Corky, who wound up falling thru the thin ice on the pond here on the farm. That was 2010. The second, Skeezix (anyone else a Gasoline Alley fan?) disappeared in 2013. That sometimes happens out here in the country. Kitties get running from something and wind up lost. Or, worse, they don't run fast enough.

That left Peanut, or Nutter as we more often called him. He was a Nut Case for sure. Another boy cat who was more like a dog than a cat. Always wanting to know what Mom and Dad were up to. Mainly looking for something else to eat, I think. He would ride on our shoulders so he missed nothing. Especially in the kitchen. A true muzzle loader!

Here he is on mom.

He made it to 12 years old. Then, in the middle of the night, suddenly lost use of his back legs. Got him to the vet before they technically opened, but there was no hope. An arterial blood clot blockage.

And now I have worrying news. Fred has gone missing. Two full days now. Going to take the back road thru the woods to the river in a few minutes again. We have found missing kitties down there before. I don't hold out a lot of hope, though. But it is a nice path if he was on the run and far enough from the house to where he might not figure out his way home.

Edit: Fred was not down at the river. We have a rustic fishing cabin down there for night fishing. And a little party pavilion. But, no Fred. All the barns and sheds were checked yesterday in case he got locked in somewhere. So now it's just wait and see if he returns.

I guess like Lucas, she inherited mama cat's good nature, and of course she feels no threat from you despite all the picture taking. It's a good relationship, except for her relationship with the birds. ;)

It seems that you have given a lot of kitties a lot of love and good lives. And also given them their freedom to live as cats, outdoors as they lived before we brought them inside. Since I am getting to this very late in the week, and there have been no new posts, I guess Fred has not returned. We can still hope. @RobertBrownSF 's Max disappeared for two weeks, was found and once back home seemingly decided not to wander away again!

Just such a sweet look. I see what you mean about her smile. Something about the shape of the mouth gives that look. One kitty I had, Cali, always seemed to be smiling as well.

Caught in the act! Has she ever taken the leap of faith and gone straight up at the bird? (Unfortunately) mine have done that and caught their prey. Sometimes I can distract them enough to let the bird go but sometimes not before the bird is harmed. In this case I guess the camera was an effective deterrent. :)
