    Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the announced shuttering of DPReview (which did not happen), the last Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

    Sagacious Kitty of the Week!

    Street Cat of Istanbul

    This kitty's confident look hints at a depth of experience and intelligence within that we cannot know.

    As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and stories of your feline companions with us."

    “Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

    Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras welcome. Images from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge where nice comments abound and only constructive criticism is given when it's requested.

    The Sunday Cat! is now open for business and beginning its 17th year! :D

    Last week's purrs, #831 / DPRv #24

    Thread Manager's Corner:
    Thank you all for all the wonderful images last week, stories and comments! Especially since I continue to be run over at work with all those "we need it yesterday" requests. Unfortunately, I think this is going to continue until at least the end of the year so I really appreciate everyone's contributions when I find it hard to participate. Now on to the kitties! :)

    ~~~ Kim
    Though small in size, the imprint they make on our lives is huge.
    The Street Cats of Istanbul are a very confident lot. They all seem to know who they are and what they are about. And they are so beautiful as well. :)
    Anew friend turned up at the door (literally). Kitty seems to have been abandoned and is looking for friendship. Sadly Tiger just growls and hisses at her and Stripey ignores her. She likes : cat milk and running away
    I'm a bit late, but since today is the 3rd anniversary of Keksi's death, here's a photo of her for this thread, looking at the world from our balcony in the dusk in 2017.
    She lived to the age of 18 years and was still healthy and vigorous until cancer appeared and took her from us, despite a few months of initially promising remission.
    This kitty is such a delight to look at with his strong coloration. The detail is also wonderful. I like the bit of what appears to be spider web caught in the eye whiskers on one side.
    This one looks like he was in study mode. :) Just after study mode and before they pounce it seems that they will dilate their eyes briefly. I'm not sure exactly why but I often wonder if they do that because of the shallower depth of field when the eyes are dilated. It might help them assess exactly how far away the subject of interest is.
    And of course rest. They are the masters of it.
    Do you think you're going to keep her and see if she adjusts (or rather if Tiger and Stripey adjust) or try to find her another home? No doubt she sensed that kitties lived there and decided to give it a try. I have introduced new kitties into my home but it is slow and kind of painful. Ideally a room of their own initially if one is available. If I recall correctly, Tiger and Stripey are siblings, so their bond might make it harder for the newcomer to find acceptance. I hope it can work out.
    Here am I in the last hours before raising the new week's Sunday Cat! It's never too late to post. :)
    It appears that age treated Keksi kindly in her final years, with kitty curiosity still quite alive in the senior cat. We're lucky that we have our photos to share and memorialize our special friends. It seems especially unfair when they are still doing well, but are suddenly taken away by disease instead being allowed to slowly fade to the inevitable.
    I really like this kitty's eyebrows! I can't think of having ever seen a kitty with markings like that before. The only tabby I've had simply didn't have even a hint of eyebrows in his markings. That raised eyebrow makes him look a little more aggressive, like, "why are you pointing that at ME!" :)
    Next week's Sunday Cat! will be late
    I have to dash off for the evening now and won't be back for a number of hours. It probably will the the 1st in my timezone by the time I get it up later. :)
    Well we can't throw her out on her ear...and she can't stay outside in winter...so we'll try and help her. She's getting bolder. Found her upstairs on our bed this morning. Hopefully T and S will learn to ignore her. We haven't managed to get in touching range yet, though
    So she's in the getting to know you mode. Food is always a great incentive, and kindness to the other kitties seems to encourage the newcomer to develop trust in you as well. Thinking good thoughts that it will all work out. :)
