Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the announced shuttering of DPReview (which did not happen), the last Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here on 9 April 2023 and since then has claimed ownership of the Olympus/OM Systems forum. 😉

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and stories of your feline companions with us."

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras welcome. Images from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge where nice comments abound and only constructive criticism is given when it's requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for business. :D

    Thread Manager's Corner:
Here we are at the last Sunday of 2023. It has been a consequential year for the Sunday Cat! The big event was the eviction notice we all got from Amazon in mid-March when we were notified that DPReview was about to shutdown and not leave a trace of its existence. It was an incredible blow and a scramble to map Sunday Cat! history as best as one could. But there was simply no way to preserve it.

Meantime of course, like any cat, we had to take a leap and find a place to land. At that time DPRevived appeared to be the most promising, with very serious and skilled DPR members leading the project, and a number of other DPR members headed here. As an entirely new site, it had no history of cat photo threads like those that I found when I looked at other candidate sites. The other sites I explored seemed to be very unwelcoming to new cat threads, so I also saw this as the best place to continue the weekly tradition. Unfortunately development of the new site was slow, after all the folks who set this up are still also doing their day jobs. And, DPR got a reprieve from GearPatrol, drawing a large number of people back to DPR when it didn't go away, bifurcating the Sunday Cat! audience. I try to encourage participation here by posting a pointer to the Sunday Cat! at DPR each week, but it doesn't seem to have helped.

All that said, I have to thank everyone who participates here because without you, there would be no Sunday Cat! at all. I hope we can keep the Sunday Cat! alive here even though it has gone through a few of its nine lives this year. 😄

But at least he lives on in your heart and the images that you share with us.
