Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the announced shuttering of DPReview (which did not happen), the last Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

Thread Manager's Corner:
We certainly enjoyed Bennie's and Misty's attraction to the humble box (best cat toy ever!) and Arni giving us a look that calls out for our admiration. :) Of course there's one box that they don't like. The one that has a visit to the vet included with it! Mr. P is getting to know that "joy" pretty regularly now, so some box avoidance is natural for him. Hoping all the other kitties are doing well!

I have been collecting a number of older pictures of cats for possible printing and thought I might bring a few here over the next several weeks .. Hopefully only a few will be remembered ... but I think most never made it here in the past ... so ...

Street Cats of Istanbul

She looks like she's ready to come up and greet you, maybe even kneading a little as well. :)

Siblings, Istanbul Turkey. Cats are everywhere. I must say I dont think that it is a very good idea, they almost wiped out local small wild birds expect pigeons, doves, seagulls and a few house sparrows.

A new cat, Bread, here. She is a very energetic, active little ginger girl that is interested in everything in this world.

By the way, tomorrow is the Lunar (Chinese) New Year of Dragon, and I wish everyone (of course, cats too) has a healthy and wealthy new year.

Yes, they have to be everywhere when you can get so many in a single shot. And yes, very many cats can decimate bird populations. Historically though they were appreciated by humans for their ability to control rodents, and still are even today. Years ago when the housing market collapsed and most of the homes in my neighborhood were vacant, there was no one to pick up the fruit that was falling from all the backyard trees. Rats became a big problem. Palmer, as it turned out, was a very good ratter (but I could live without the gifts). Better than laying out poison for them which might end up killing cats or possibly the birds of prey that also lurk here. There seems however to have been a law in Turkey put on the books in the last few years that would require sterilization of strays. Maybe Kumsal can comment this aspect.
