Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the announced shuttering of DPReview (which did not happen), the last Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

    Wishful Kitty of the Week!

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and stories of your feline companions with us."

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. (And we are very late today!) Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras welcome. Images from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge where nice comments abound and only constructive criticism is given when it's requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for business. :D

    Last week's purrs, #857 / DPRv #50

    Thread Manager's Corner:
Thanks to all who visited and commented! From the discussion last week it seems that the Sunday Cat! may be best served by staying here, as outside of its original forum, none, except perhaps for the Medium Format forum at DPR would be welcoming. The Sunday Cat! seems to set its own course that doesn't quite fit any one "cat"-egory. ;) Also, in looking at both DPR and DPRv today, I noticed the loss of image threads at the old stomping grounds, as well as noting the most active threads here seem to be image threads, along with a number of individual image posts. Since DPR did not die as expected, this forum is still trying to find its place in the world. It seems that the direction is toward images, but there have not been any updates for a while now on short and long term plans to say how this is going. Meanwhile, the Sunday Cat! will keep climbing this tree and enjoy the view from wherever we are. :)

Continuing the conversation from last week:

I think the weekly thread was restarted some months ago and was more popular then. Interest seems to have dropped off now. Most m43 people seem to be happy to post their picks as new threads - but they may be after gear discussion.
Overall could it be that a lot left after the rumoured shutdown and there's a higher proportion of gear heads left now?

They have quite varied coats with more / lesser white fleck and sometimes patches. There are the red ones too. She meets the conformation re build but she's a touch under height. Not that I would want to show her. Some are a bit more lean, while she is stocky for a female.

I posted a pick some months ago with her giving the farm cat some side-eye. When she was younger I was trying to train her not to chase the cats and she was doing well until that cat attacked her (That cat was brave. I saw him attack another dog too). But after that all bets were off 😁 - and she likes chasing many things... At another place there was an old horse with few teeth that we fed wet kibble. The horse would drop plenty of it on the ground and she ran around eating it. Not sure if it was food or large animal anxiety but every now and then she would get exited and bark at it and a couple of times jumped up and hung off it's tail - until the horse placed a well timed hoof to her head - which was scary but funny at the same time - she survived it ok.

I see a lot of familiar handles at DPR and new ones. But it looks like MFT moves more slowly. The bottom of the page lists posts from yesterday. If I am recalling correctly you just wouldn't have posts from one day back on the first page. That was one of my reasons for not moving Sunday Cat! there in 2016 when I first took it over. I was afraid it would always be falling off the page. Maybe others had their enthusiasm dampened like I did, although I ended up posting there because I saw something I could comment on. :) I also noticed that the Weekly Photo thread from the 9th got bumped back onto the first page as of now (19:45 PDT).

I just took a look at some of the sites I bookmarked last year as potential places to move to. They don't really seem to be that active, where they still exist. It seems like DPRv might have been the best of them. The one thing I dislike about all of this is the history of this thread lives at DPR and it cannot be pulled over here. Maybe that's the part I'm still trying to get over.

Now that you mention that image, I remember it. Yeah, there's no training a cat not to attack a dog unless they grow up together, so I guess keeping cats out of Ravi's way will help her keep out of trouble. Those sharp things at the end of the kitty's feet can really hurt! ;)

She knows she's got a good thing going on on the inside. Going outside is probably just so she can remind herself that she is a domesticated animal in name only. ;)
