Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. When DPReview was threatened with closure in March 2023, the last regular Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

    Naturalistic Kitty of the Week!

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and stories of your feline companions with us."

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras welcome. Images from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge where nice comments abound and only constructive criticism is given when it's requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for business. :D

Stripey is extremely gruntled with the bucket on her head to stop her scratching and licking. The body suit lasted about 2 hours...

    Street Cats of Istanbul

The number of street cats in Kadıköy has decreased significantly within a year.
Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, many cats have found a new home.

My kitty, Henry, showed up with a rather substantial abcess on his hip. Treatment included the obligatory "cone of shame". The first night he managed to remove the gauze strip they had tied it on with. The second night he managed to find somewhere to hide the cone itself -- I still haven't found it. Luckily, his wound was healing quickly, so I decided to see how he did without the cone, and he did fine; if he hadn't, I did have another cone to put on if I needed to.

    Hi,

Ah, yes. The Cone. Always a favorite. Not! ;)

We almost had a free kitten yesterday. Someone went outside to clean up some T storm debris from the night before. And found a little kitten crying it's head off. Posted to a group text What Do I Do?

Well, it wasn't a group my wife is part of. But her best friend was. Sent a pic. My wife said we'd go get it. We know how to handle that. Easy Peasy. But this was a bit disconnected and by the time our volunteering got back to the person with the muzzle loader, someone else had taken the bait.

So, no new kitten for us

Yes they manage to wriggle out of most things. The first bucket was off in minutes, this one I have secured so tight she can barely breathe...still manages to lick her leg wound so it's not healing as it should

We had a dog when I was growing up who got a sore between two of her front toes. The doctor, to keep her from licking it, made what amounted to a whiplash collar out of newspaper and tape to keep her from bending her neck to lick the foot. She managed to reach it anyway, so . . . the doctor taped her leg to her neck and we had a "three-legged" dog for a while. It was very funny looking. I have a feeling this was before the invention of the Elizabethan collar, to give it its full name.

    Hi,

Well, I get home this afternoon and find someone has given us a present....
    New Muzzleloaders.jpeg

Make that three presents. All siblings, one boy and two girls. I think. Y'all know how telling what a kitten is goes!

Not named yet. I'm calling them Manny Moe and Jack - the Pep Boys. My wife says No! in about six different languages.

    Further bulletins as events warrant.

Oh!! I LIKE Manny, Moe, and Jack!! If there really are 2 girls, you could feminize two of the names. Mandy, Moe, and Jacquie?!?

Mr. Me's tummy clock tends to go off earlier than my alarm. To make sure I know that his needs are not being met he typically lies on my chest with his faces inches away. Sometimes he'll add a little kneading...ouch!

Seeing all the stories about how successful kitties (and dogs) are in escaping or rendering ineffective their cones, I guess I was lucky to be able to keep one on Mr. Me last year for a couple of months. Without the cone he would scratch off the scabs developing on the top of his head, then shake his head and throw blood everywhere! He had to suffer the cone a good long time.

It looks like this one found work as a shop kitty. Certainly a better life then living outdoors all the time. (Assuming that is the case here.) And really, an eye catching window display!

    Hi,

That's a good idea. Which I duly reported to the Mrs. She says 'No!' so there we are. We will think of something here soon. We are pretty sure the light colored one is a boy, so we named that one Sam. That can be good if he turns out to be a she. Now we need two more names that are used for both males and females.

I did suggest Sue for one, that way if she turns out to be a she it fits a Johnny Cash song, A Boy Names Sue. :P

I like Sue in that reference 😺.

A few more off the top of my head:

    • Lynne (that's me 😸! Amputate the "e" for a boy, as in Lynn Swann, the football player)
    • Leslie
    • Frances (as in Frances Tiafoe, the male tennis pro)
    • Andy/ie
    • Charlie
    • Evelyn (yes; used for boys in the UK -- BTW, they pronounce it EVE-lynne)
    • Madison

    I'm sure there are more.

    Hi,

Well, we gots lots o critters here. Cats are just one kind. Cows, horses, goats, chickens, pigs, etc. Dogs have a hard way to go as we have coyotes out there - we are in a rural river valley - and dogs are likely to chase one into an ambush.

We did this three sibling thing before. One lasted 5 years and then drowned in the pond after going thru thin ice. Another lasted 8 years and disappeared. The last of them lasted 12 years but had an issue with a blocked artery. What in human medicine is where the descending aorta splits into the two femoral arteries. For a human, there are treatments. For a cat, no.

So here we go again. Fred has disappeared and Frisky has passed and we have only Snowflake left. So friends know this and are willing to help. ;)

We did name them this morning. I'm pretty sure the grey and white one is a little girl. So we named her Doris after my mother. The all grey one is Jackie, which can be Jack if we got that part wrong. The light one I am pretty sure is a boy and named Sam as that can work either way as-is.

BTW, my mother would have said: So I am named after a cat now! And promptly swiped it. :)

    Hi,

Off to the store to buy some Purina Kitten Chow. I had a can of Kitten Milk Replacement and a small feeding bottle. Actually two. You know I'm case of kittens. But we don't need the bottles. I popped the cannot KMR open yesterday, and gave them some. They seemed rather lethargic and look a tad undernourished. That perked them right up. We have lots of small cans of high nutrition food left over from Frisky. They love that stuff. But I want some kitten specific wet and dry food as well.

I sure do buy a lot of Purina feed around this farm. And Science Diet stuff, too.
