Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. When DPReview was threatened with closure in March 2023, the last regular Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! found refuge here on 9 April 2023.

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. The Return of Bennie

Bennie is the largest cat in the house with a disproportionately long and chonky body. He got that big because he used to stuff himself silly with 8 to 10 cans of cat food every day after he was adopted from the municipal pound, due to his food insecurity issues. Luckily he has since stopped glutting himself after he was assured that there would be no shortage of food at this place. So now he just eats enough to maintain his body weight.

Bennie reminds me of Bugsy. Bugsy was named after Bugsy Siegel because he was such a gangster as a young cat. He was big too and grew up in a multicat household where he felt he had to compete for food. He used his size to intimidate the other kitties so he could eat their food as well as his own! Standing, his back was about 17 or 18 inches and in his prime he weighed about 15 pounds. One of his nicknames was The Big Guy. :) Eventually he learned better manners and came to accept his own serving as enough.

I'm going to be a bit late posting. Not used to the time change yet and the earlier posting time. :)

I had a kittie named Jackie who never learned that. The vet wanted him to weigh 12 pounds, but we couldn't get him down past 14 pounds -- and even then we were only feeding him the amount of food for an 8-pound cat!
