Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. This week Sunday Cat! marks its 18th anniversary! After spending its first 15 and a half years at DPRview, when DPReview was threatened with imminent closure, Sunday Cat! chose DPRevived, now The-Photo, as its new home, landing here and planning to stay on 9 April 2023. :)

Liftoff Imminent Kitty of the Week!

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your pictures and stories of your feline companions with us."

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! Remember, all cats, all cameras welcome. Digital cats or silver halide cats, cats of metal, or cats of the wilderness. Big cats, small cats, kittens and their toys. Cats of pen and ink, cats of brush and canvas, from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge to enjoy and marvel at the magic of cats, where positive comments abound and constructive criticism is given if requested.

The Sunday Cat! begins another year of catting around! ;)

    Last week's purrs, #935 / DPRv #127 / Sunday Cats! #27

    Thread Manager's Corner:
It's always a special time of year when the weekly Sunday Cat! and September 23 come around. Another anniversary, another year for Sunday Cat! The small but loyal audience is much appreciated, especially since I don't interact during the week like I should. I always enjoy the "in the moment" images caught with the handy camera (i.e. phone) or the superb images caught with high end gear, or even Olymupus gear which is the forum in which this tread originally appeared. :) From moments of madness to moments of seeming introspection, our kitties always capture our imagination and interest. Thank you for your participation this last year and in the years to come. :D

Nice capture of a lovely cat. I see the Turkish flag in the background, is this one of the famous cats of Istanbul? They have put in other appearances here in the past.

I was wondering the same thing. This kitty certainly seems to be comfortable with the camera nearby. Not even a hint of an ear twitch towards the camera because of focus noise or any of the other sounds our cameras make. Whatever the cat saw it must have been very interesting!

It wasn’t in Istanbul, but yes, it was in Turkey. Cats are everywhere in Turkey. I actually don’t like the hysteria around stray animals there. They are well fed and looked after too. There is abundant food on the streets left by people, some dedicated animal rights groups even provide free veterinary care and shelters. Dogs, can be quite intimidating. Some of them are really large and roam around towns in small packs. On the outskirts of towns, they can be more dangerous as they gather in larger numbers. Cats don’t pose that sort of threat but they are excellent bird hunters, it impacts on the already low wild bird population. Cats alone can’t be blamed, as there are very few trees, bushes, green areas to provide shelter for birds.Still, I do remember there used to be abundant sparrows, pigeons, and doves, but now their numbers are noticeably lower.

I was relatively far from the cat, 120 mm gives this comfort and G100 is very very quite, it just clicks, I even dont hear much. But your are right certainly it was distracted by something.

One thing about cats, they are in and of the moment. No looking back, or ahead, just being, now. It's sunny, it feels good, enjoy it!
