Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. When DPReview was threatened with closure in March 2023, the last regular Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! found refuge here on 9 April 2023.

    Unflappable Kitty of the Week!

    The Barrier

I'm here now so you're going to have to find yourself another ticket barrier to make your payment!

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your pictures and stories of your feline companions with us."

"Official" posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don't accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! Remember, all cats, all cameras welcome. Digital cats or silver halide cats, cats of metal, or cats of the wilderness. Big cats, small cats, kittens and their toys. Cats of pen and ink, cats of brush and canvas, from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge to enjoy and marvel at the magic of cats, where positive comments abound and constructive criticism is given if requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for mischief. :D

    Thread Manager's Corner:
Last week's images certainly showed us how supremely confident some kitties are and the way they can assert that confidence on the rest of us. ;) This past week Mr. Me seemed to have regained much of his confidence once his stiches were removed and he was also freed of the obligation to wear a protective collar. Right away when he got home he found his cat tree and made his way to the top to celebrate! Two days later he received the first treatment in his new chemo regimen. Since then, he's showed no sign that it has upset his system. Considering that the full course of treatment goes on for 25 weeks, we hope that he continues to avoid bad side effects. :) Let's see now what the last week of October brings.

The Kitten Caper - Or How I Got A New Grandcat

My son had noticed an odd sound coming from above the ceiling in his office. He'd seen a stray expectant cat outside, so he was suspicious there were kittens up there. Sure enough, when he explored, he could make out small shapes in the darkness and hear the mewling. He hoped the mom would return, but when they kept crying for two days, he got two of his sons, a flashlight, a box, and went on a rescue mission. The kittens were tiny and desperate, covered with fleas, but had teeth and were able to toddle around a bit. They boxed up the six fluffballs. Amazingly they found a shelter for underage kittens that would care for them till they were 6 weeks old then adopt them out. But they kept one. His name is Blue. He's doing well two weeks later, and I'll be taking my real camera to get better photos. These are taken by me and the grandsons with little care.

That's quite a tail! ;) While the photos are not gallery quality, they illustrate the story very well. It appears that they were very fortunate, and that your son was very fortunate in finding a shelter for the bottle babies! And of course we can't overlook his willingness to take on the responsibility of keeping and caring for one of them. A wonderful story for a Sunday. :)

    Hi,

Six kittens! I have done the bottle feeding of youngun critters from cats to cows. But six! All hungry at the same time! The most we have done is three at one time. Two humans. Two bottles. Three muzzleloaders. Someone has to wait, and they ain't happy, and they let you know it - loudly!

This last time, the three kittens were old enough to eat wet kitten food. So, we were spared the bottle stage.

I would have kept all six. I am a glutton for punishment that way..... ;)

Enjoy your new owner there. P
