Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly online community gathering on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. When DPReview was threatened with closure in March 2023, the last regular Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! found refuge here on 9 April 2023.

    Good-Lookin' Kitty of the Week!

    Blue

Blue, already very photogenic! We look forward to seeing him grow up. :D

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your pictures and stories of your feline companions with us."

"Official" posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don't accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras, all cat fanciers welcome! Digital cats or silver halide cats, cats of metal, or cats of the wilderness. Big cats, small cats, kittens and their toys. Cats of pen and ink, cats of brush and canvas, from any time, any place. Tales of their lives or adventures. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge to enjoy and marvel at the magic of cats, where positive comments abound and constructive criticism is given if requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for mischief. :D

    Last week's purrs, #951 / DPRv #143 / Sunday Cats! #43
Last week is worth revisiting for the other wonderful images as well. :)

    Thread Manager's Corner:
Thank you for the excellent images last week. It is a pleasure to revisit them. :) It's also a time for me to look back more than look forward. After Mr. Me's emergency visit last weekend, on Tuesday I took him to the clinic where he has been getting his chemotherapy for another exam and a CAT scan. The information from the scan was somewhat subtle, but the test on a sample taken from a lymph node confirmed that Mr. Me's cancer has spread. Since the chemo has not been successful in beating it back, with the doctor's advice I made the decision to essentially put him into hospice care, so now he's getting meds to somewhat improve his quality of life. Because the cancer is spreading in his nasal passages and throat, the doctor thinks he might not have a lot of time left. So far, with the additional supporting meds, he has improved somewhat, although tonight he is a little off. I have lots of options for him so I will probably implement something a little later that should help. I've been trying to get some good photos of him before he is gone and hope to have something to share later.

Sorry to hear your sad news. I am sure you will give him all the tender care he needs.

Micio is still having problems with his health. Nothing serious, but he cannot seem to shift a bladder infection. Luckily he is good with his meds and does not protest to much when I give him some medicine on a spoon.

Just a snap I took this morning.

Thanks. I'm doing what I can to keep him comfortable. It may prove hard to decide when the time has come. I am hoping he gives me clear signals.

Micio looks active and bright in his photo. I hope he licks his infection soon and gets back to 100 percent.

When Palmer was declared no longer treatable and went into hospice, he was around for another 53 weeks. I'm hoping Mr. Me has a good run, but where the cancer is already causes him problems with swallowing, so it's likely his survival won't be anywhere near as long. I need to be attentive to the signs he gives me about how he's doing.

Sometimes he does not like having his picture taken!

The news about Mr. Me makes me sad.
I hope he isn't suffering too much.

    Hi,

Jack says: Mr Me can have some of my catnip and toys if that'll help.

The Nip is (was) on the center of the blue ball track. I say Was, as I think it is in Jack now. ;)

He definitely looks like quite a ferocious feline in that one. But what lovely teeth! Mr. Me's are quite yellow. I was planning on having him get a cleaning this year... Interestingly, even though Mr. Me can't hear well now owing to his ear infection, he hears the camera when I point it at him and automatically turns away if he's at all awake.

He's doing better today and eating very regularly. I guess he's just going to have good days and bad days. Today has been a good one for both of us. :)

Definitely looks like some good drugs there. That makes me think that maybe I should lace some of Mr. Me's food with catnip. Might make it even more enticing for him. ;)

As you might guess, when a friend dies one tends to go back through old photos. I have been going back through hundreds of color and black and white negatives, prints and slides lately. I've been quite surprised how many of these photos are of cats! In fact, I think I took cat photos more often with film than I do now with digital. Or so it seems.

In going through the old photos I came across one of my all time favorite cat photos. :D

    2026-01-10-0026.jpg

    Find the kitty! :)

This photo probably dates from about 1989. There is a story to go with it.

Likely, I was clearing leaves off the roof of the garage. I remember looking down and seeing Madame, my pale tortoiseshell kitty that lived until almost 21 (1978 to 1999), sprawled on the hood of the car. It looked like a good photo-op to me so I climbed down the ladder, went into the house to get my camera, probably the Leica IIIf, got back up on the roof to take the picture, only to have the cat follow me up the ladder to see what I was up to! Frustrated, I took the picture anyway and there you have it! An ear and part of her head. 😄 How foolish of me to think that she would stay put. 😁

    Hi,

I have not taken dozens of cat shots over the past few weeks. One or another gets all cute. I pick up the cell phone, get the camera gong, and....they move just as I take the shot. Half the time it is a blurry mess. The other half of the time my phone tells me to hold it still! I am! It ain't me moving the camera, you stoopid phone! :P

Notice I got one of Jack the other day. Because I drugged him! Catnip, ya know. ;)

Sunday Cat! will be late. We’re at emergency to see if more can be done for Mr. Me’s ear infection.

    Hi,

By all means. Mr Me comes first.

Meanwhile, we can keep on here. We bought a new cat tower for the kittens for Christmas. This evening is the first time they have all been on it at the same time.

Jack has glowing eyes. Sorry, but the cell phone cam needed some extra light.

That's quite a jungle gym they have there! I suppose Jack's glowy eyes are just a sign that he's still getting over his little "trip". :)
