Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly online community gathering on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. When DPReview was threatened with closure in March 2023, the last regular Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! found refuge here on 9 April 2023.

    Arrested Kitty of the Week!

    Street Cats of Istanbul

This admirable Street Cat of Istanbul appears to have been interrupted in the act of grooming, his or her curiosity being aroused by the human's unusual activity. ;)

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your pictures and stories of your feline companions with us."

"Official" posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don't accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras, all cat fanciers welcome! Digital cats or silver halide cats, cats of metal, or cats of the wilderness. Big cats, small cats, kittens and their toys. Cats of pen and ink, cats of brush and canvas, from any time, any place. Tales of their lives or adventures. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge to enjoy and marvel at the magic of cats, where positive comments abound and constructive criticism is given if requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for easy riding. 😉

    Thread Manager's Corner:
Welcome to a new month. The first month in decades where I do not have a kitty in my home. It makes it a strange place. I'm getting better about not checking for a cat under my feet, or expecting one to sidle up to me at the computer and expect to be picked up and petted. It will be remedied at some point, but not at this moment. For now I will savor your photos. And post a few old ones of mine.

Mr. Me was only 10 when cancer won the battle, so he pretty much lived his whole life in my digital age. Owing to this I've found I have a lot of photos of him, some of which are pretty good. I believe several have been posted previously, but I'd like to reshare. I hope you don't mind.

This is among his earliest photos, in Sept 2017, a few days after I had officially adopted him. (i.e. after his first trip to the vet with all that entails.)

Just a couple of months later, he was quite comfortable in his new home.

Very comfortable. :) Interesting that this photo is from Jan 20, 2018.

    More next week. :D

    Hi,

Mind? No. I don't mind at all. In fact, this week could be the Mr Me Memorial Thread.

Don't worry! There are more pictures of Mr. Me to come. :D I will spin them out a little at a time so no one is overwhelmed. (i.e. I've found too many that I like.)

I might have missed some photos of him.

In this way, the volunteers provide the cats on the coast with drinking water.

    Hi,

Sir Jack has just wound down from a frantic play session with the ball track. It is 15 degrees F here this morning. So, while it is sunny ans bright, the cats don't wanna go out just yet.

However, Jack is now Out in another meaning of the word. ;)

Interesting in how the environment can be leveraged sometimes.

I don't blame them for wanting to stay in. One time when I was visiting a friend in Iowa, it was gorgeous, sunny, and about 15 degrees as well with some wind making it feel colder. It looked so good outside, but didn't feel that way!

It looks like for Jack, life is good. And then you nap. :) I hope you have no need to go anywhere (like Jack!). But I guess you have the equipment to clear the way if need be. ;)

    Hi,

No, we didn't need to go anywhere. And I did clear the way for the first half mile. That's my gravel farm road. I stopped at the top of the hill where it meets the State maintained road. Which, they did nothing to. The tendency here is to just let it melt. Which, it proceeded to begin doing.

My worry was half melting then freezing into ice overnight. We went from 35 F to 10F. Then, yesterday, it rose up to 40 F. I took a ride up the State road yesterday about 1 PM and most of it was melted off. All that was left on my farm road were two thin lines on each side where the baby snowbanks were.

And the kitties were all outside yesterday too.

More coming tomorrow. Rain at first then changing to snow. Probably won't amount to much.

Good to hear that the snow is not overwhelming and light enough to melt away, as well as everyone getting an outing of one type or another before the next round!

    Hi,

So I was out back by the pond shooting the empty bench for an different thread. And Jack comes along to see what Dad is up to and makes the bench not empty.

Kind of the reverse of my favorite cat photo of the other week where the kitty removed herself from the "bench", although in that case the bench was the hood of the car, and joined me on the roof.

In any case he seems to be very interested in something. I like how his tail is tightly curled, apparently to show off his stripes. :)

I know that I'll be late tomorrow. I have a rehearsal until 4 and probably will do some photography after that before I come home. (Trying out the E-M1x I just got.)

    Hi,

Fine business. BTW, I had no idea what that model is. I had to go look it up on DPR. In case anyone else doesn't know, here is the first line from their review:

The Olympus OM-D E-M1X is the ultimate sports, action and wildlife camera for professional Micro Four Thirds users.

I already spot a serious error. Cats are not mentioned! Terrible oversight1 :P

Cats certainly count as wildlife! Of course I'm not any of the types of photographer they list. My primary activities seem to be shooting concerts and what I guess is essentially street photography, or at least I take a camera with me on almost every walk so I end up taking street photos. Mainly I got the E-M1x for three reasons, better IBIS than the E-M1 Mk II, a better grip which makes it more suitable for the 4/3 f2 lenses I use at concerts, and compatibility with existing gear like batteries and the Metabones Canon EF to m43 adapter that I have. (Canon EF, the universal donor...) That the sensor and processor are the same as what's in my E-M1 Mk II is fine with me. I know what it can do, and it does what I need.

I've seen it stated that the E-M1x grip feels a lot like the grip on the original, the E-1. Indeed it does. I handled them side-by-side. The E-M1x might be a little thinner as well, but only very slightly thinner. The larger body just feels a better to me. I really prefer the feel of larger cameras like the E-1, but also the E-3 and Canon 6D. I just find them easier to hold and carry around than any of the smaller cameras. The E-M1x falls into this category with its large size. Assuming this one is a keeper (it's in excellent condition, haven't tried to get the shutter count yet), I'll probably (should!) work on thinning the herd after this. :)
