Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly online community gathering on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. When DPReview was threatened with closure in March 2023, the last regular Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! found refuge here on 9 April 2023.

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your pictures and stories of your feline companions with us."

"Official" posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don't accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras, all cat fanciers welcome! Digital cats or silver halide cats, cats of metal, or cats of the wilderness. Big cats, small cats, kittens and their toys. Cats of pen and ink, cats of brush and canvas, from any time, any place. Tales of their lives or adventures. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge to enjoy and marvel at the magic of cats, where positive comments abound and constructive criticism is given if requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for mischief. :D

    Thread Manager's Corner:
Late again! I had to catch up today with things that should have been done yesterday. Now I'm not so much thinking that I am hearing or seeing Mr. Me around the house, but I am noticing all the odd noises you hear now and again. It makes me wonder if his presence and his own noise just covered it up, or if I simply never noticed before. A bit of an odd thing. That reminds me of something. I generally seem to live in flat roofed houses. A phrase Lynne and I coined a long time ago is "thundering herd of cat!" Or at least that's what it sounds like when they run across the roof. :D The next two weeks I will either be posting early or (more likely) late. I'll be doing matinee performances at posting time. Meantime, I hope everyone enjoys their own thundering herd of cat. ;)

Just one this week. And instead of progressing forward in time it goes backward. I think it may have been the first photo I took of Mr. Me. And it was long lost until this week. Lynne kept on asking me for it, but I didn't remember it well enough to find it. However, the last week I was going through my email from Lynne and found mention of it, which led me to the original email with it attached. So here it is. :)

This shot shows Mr. Me in front with Palmer (Mr. P) way behind on the fence. A little hard to tell here but their white areas are mirrored. Mr. Me's left leg is white while Mr. P's is his right leg. Meanwhile the spot of white around Mr. Me's nose is on his right, and on Mr. P it's on his left. :) Clever guys. ;)

This also tells me that he was around almost a year earlier than I thought.

A month or two ago I finally replaced my ancient cell phone with a new
whiz bang one with (too many) features. One feature I did want was one
with a real, optical (short) telephoto lens.
Here is an example at 230mm based on a 35 mm frame.
Of course the only model I could possibly use was Mokey,
    A cat, what else?

    Hi,

The best I ever stuck into one of my phone designs was 8 MP. Yep. That dates me. I quit the terminal (handset) R&D game end of 2013. Kept my last for a long while then it hit end of life with the system around 2020 and I let the carrier send me what they wanted for a replacement. That had a whopping 2 MP camera. Ugh.

Last March, I opted to finally actually buy a terminal. Yep. The very first cell phone I ever had to buy. Ah, well. Went for a Samsung S25 with a 50 MP main camera and two other ones to boot. And that is on the back. There is one on the front I never use.

And what do I do with that? Cat pics. There we go. ;)
