Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly online community gathering on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. When DPReview was threatened with closure in March 2023, the last regular Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! found refuge here on 9 April 2023.

    Cryptic Kitty of the Week!

    Cryptic kitty

The unnamed stranger showed up in our midst, at first darning not to reveal his face, and never his name. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of kitties? ;)

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your pictures and stories of your feline companions with us."

"Official" posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don't accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras, all cat fanciers welcome! Digital cats or silver halide cats, cats of metal, or cats of the wilderness. Big cats, small cats, kittens and their toys. Cats of pen and ink, cats of brush and canvas, from any time, any place. Tales of their lives or adventures. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge to enjoy and marvel at the magic of cats, where positive comments abound and constructive criticism is given if requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for even more mischief, and pretty much on time for a change! :D

    Last week's purrs, #960 / DPRv #152 / Sunday Cats! #52

    Thread Manager's Corner:
Last week we had a nice array of images from Max with his ice blue eyes to the red hot stranger a few days later, with story telling images and a late posting that I find very interesting but hard to describe. It was a good week! Here's hoping for more. :)

Though small in size, the imprint they make on our lives is huge.

    Kitty past

March 15, 1983 was the assigned birthday for Molly Bolt, aka Fifo. Since nearly all of my cats just showed up, or their heritage basically unknown, they get their birth dates assigned for them.

Molly B's backstory is this. Lynne was driving on the Hyperion bridge underpass one day, and right about where the red pin is on this map, she spotted a kitten on the inside shoulder, apparently left there to die. She brought her car to an abrupt halt, got out, grabbed the kitten, threw it on her shoulder and then drove to my place from there. Initially, Lynne kept Molly B at her no pets apartment, but when she and her mom went off on vacation she brought the six month old kitty to me to take care of her while they were gone. Molly B ended up staying with me for the rest of her life, which ended October 30, 2000.

Lynne named her Molly, but she earned her additional names, especially Fifo. :) She was absolutely the first one in and the first one out! A door opening always required her to be present and to be the first cross the threshold. Bolt came from her liveliness, but it was also a fun nod to molly bolts. ;)

The pictures shown are of her late in life, early 2000. Her whiskers used to be black but they became white with age. In the shot above she was at her favorite bird watching place, a habit she never gave up as she aged. She would even monitor the feeders at night!

The picture below shows Lynne measuring Molly B's famously long tail. The 15 inch ruler shows that it measured out at about 13 inches. (Sorry folks, we're still not metric here.)

Molly B was a sweet and loving kitty to her very last hour.

This is one of a series, a couple other I've show in this thread before at DPR or Here. And I'm even running out of file pictures and may have to start recycling those from earlier to continue! Or post my daughters pictures of their cats .. I don't travel well to see one and the other's new home doesn't provide as good a background for these pictures and the cats are getting a little older and maybe a bit camera shy when not licking them ..

I know what you mean about them getting a little camera shy as they get older, or rather, a little smarter about cameras and how to avoid them is probably more like it! Without any living kitties at home I am recycling photos now, so there is no harm in doing that, especially when the ones originally posted at DPR seem to have gone missing when they converted to the new forum software. That has been extremely disheartening. Share what you wish here!
