Yes, I know - it was a joke.
But I had thought that Telegram (the messenger service) was run by the black hats from the dark web. And as such, it was not that popular and very heavily scrutinised (if that is possible).

Its widely used I think because of its privacy. I find it useful for different discussion boards and for private messaging.

It's a messenger, but also much more than that due to API. See for example core.telegram.org/bots

I confess using Telegram. A gaming group I'm in has been using it since 2015 or so. It's been pretty convenient for that, haven't really checked other kind of communities though.

I use it purely as a messenger service with a group of friends - it works well and is a lot more flexible than WhatsApp as it has a variety of clients for different platforms including iPad, Mac and PC.
There’s nothing sinister or “dark hat” about it, aside from the fact that like anything with strong security and privacy it’s used by some bad guys as well as the good.
