Will we ever get photo posting like dpr had? That had a 20mb jpeg limit, which ment I didn't need to create a lower-quality jpeg for posting. Now for each jpeg I may want to post and have to go through an extra step. I hope they will be able to in the future as well as being able to see the exif when we hover the mouse over the photo. Missing the dpr photo posting ease and quality is for me the most disturbing part of the closing of dpr.
Plans may be in the works. As I have mentioned this site has been in existence for only 2 weeks. DPReview evolved over the last 25 years. DPRevived will evolve but for the moment we do have a place to call home and that is a real benefit.
There is currently a 4MB upload limit which is quite low but, even at full resolution (24/26MP cameras, anyway), pics still look remarkably decent with the necessary compression. The detail/color doesn't take much of hit and I'm not seeing any banding or anything. My understanding is that something will be done to improve the situation in the future, but in the meantime it's really not that bad.
It's certainly just as easy to upload images directly from your computer as before and insert them into your post (I'm just setting a 4MP file size limit without resizing when exporting from Lightroom). I haven't figured out if there's a way to hide the image links at the bottom, though. This really doesn't look all that different from the original if you don't peep too closely...
The site has been up for one week, not two. They've had all this time and still haven't been able to implement every aspect of DPR. Especially considering all the money we have invested. What klutzes, huh? 😉
What I meant is that we should maybe be a little patient. A lot has been accomplished in a very short time. The features DPR has weren't accomplished over night. For now we have an out of the box forum. To change it to what we all hope for takes more than clicking a few buttons and checking a few boxes. It will mean a lot work for some people. So maybe we shouldn't whine about petty things like colours and image sizes on this temporary solution.
FYI. As I mentioned in the other thread the 1st "Weekly" thread will be on Friday, April 7. I live in the PST time zone. To accommodate our friends in Europe and further east I intend to start the thread later Thursday evening, PST. That will allow a full Friday for Europe and beyond. Hope to see your images!
Greg, if you want it to display, you will need to do 1 more step after uploading. A box will appear. When you click on the box it then generates the necessary code for the post to display your photo. Give it another try if you want.
The mountain azaleas are blooming along the Eno River. It is unusual to find these this plant outside the North Carolina mountains, but they have found a favorable environment here in Durham by the Eno.
Thanks Bob, tried again but I suppose I'm missing something. I clicked the 'upload file' icon, selected the photo, and posted my reply, but no box appeared.
After clicking on the ‘upload file’ icon, a grey area will appear on the bottom left of your post. Initially it shows the progress of the upload and then a small black box and a black cross. Click on the small black box and some fairly incomprehensible code will appear in the body of your post. When you then post the reply, it magically displays as an image - which can be clicked to see the large version.
