    OK - serious conversation here.

    We want to encourage conversation.
We could have started banning people. But what good would that do in reality. The banned person could just create a new login and carry on.
We could have made them read-only, so they couldn't post. See point above for how well that could work.
If we see something written by someone that we think is against our advice, we will PM them.
We do NOT want personal abuse - and we try and take the gentle touch to dissuade people when we see it (I don't read every post in every forum, so I may miss some). Most people don't realise they may have gone too far.

There are one or two that do take things too far and don't react well to being asked not to do so. We are still working out how to deal with that (this is a new site - and we want to get it right). I think you will see some changes coming soon - maybe good, maybe not.

So, has it gone too far? I don't think so - but it's getting very close. To me, putting people down, insulting them (even indirectly) and generally being negative about people is not what we are here for and the sooner people realise this, the better. Alternative opinions should be respected, not mocked.

If you don't like what I have said (any of you), you are free to leave. You are free to argue against the concepts above. You are NOT free to argue that my viewpoint is wrong and that I am in any way a worse person because of it.

You want to be babied and moderated. Some of us don't...

I am out of this thread. I agree that it went too far off topic - not that there is something that should be banned but it is not about photography or the future of this forum anymore.

Just remember that you can't please everyone, so "getting it right" is subjective and no matter what you do some people will complain. Generally speaking if you're getting roughly the same number of "too much moderation" and "too little moderation" complaints then you're probably close to the mark.

Maybe you should get your facts straight before posting.

Had you done so you would have seen that I fully support Bob's facilitator/mediation model.

I have a little stash of the holy grail. Literally. From your country I think. Wildest beer I've ever tasted. IMG20220617162629.jpg

You need to try Theaksons Old Peculiar.

So how many years do you think you can hold a grudge against me Danno? Any advance on the Mako?

English beer is not that easy to come by here. Unless you're happy to pay extortion pricing from some of the specialist importers. I bought up a stock of Black Sheep brewery beers when one of the local supermarkets was having a run-out sale. The holy grail, dead parrot, and a couple of pale ales. Really nice drops. I've about exhausted my stash, I'll have to go looking for your recommendation.

I really don't get you all:
If I'm right I cannot be wrong.
    Can we agree?

Now If I am "Far right" the opposite is to be "Far wrong"

... but no idea how you on the other side of the pond, can turn left when you are right
( even when you are wrong - ça va sans dire )

I think there is a missing option in that poll.

I read what you said. It was over modded at dpreview and not modded enough here. You'll get your goldilocks forum one day...

Citation needed. I’m willing to concede that there were abuses. Not that DPR moderation was heavy-handed overall. In many cases, I felt at times that moderators were too slow to act…or didn’t act at all.

I’m not going to enter into this debate. I just want to be certain that a few loud voices aren’t mistaken for a majority without being certain that I'm also heard.

It depends on how you differentiate between abuse and heavy handness.

You do realise that posting your opinion is you entering into the debate. Either way I'd love to know which forum you felt was "under' modded / not modded enough at dpreview...

If you want to be heard in life you'd better speak up. No one here is blocking your opinion or thoughts despite what you write...

    @AlanSh

I really shouldn’t admit this Alan, but my girlfriend and I lived on Theaksons Old Peculiar for an entire summer weekend many moons ago. Long story, but it all began with six tequila slammers for breakfast !
    Young and dumb. lol

It was good at any temperature.
Gave up the booze back in 2010 - - never going back.

It's not my forum. I have nothing to do with the running of these forums.

It's Bob and his team you are referring to regarding goldilocks forums.

I didn’t maintain a log of grievances. I’m sharing my overall impressions formed from my daily visitation and participation.
