But by the same application of logic nor are you as you do not know what he said to me...let us stop that tiny little violin I hear playing for him...

Let moderators (facilitators) be elected by the community. Also limit the term to 2 years max - and no reappointment for 2nd term. Simple but effective community led way.

    Facts:
The DPR Coolpix moderator, who is a member here but I don't remember his name, offer me, (here) to remove the DPR ban that your friend mako gave me.

Mako somehow knew about it, which I guess he is already be posting here (hidden under another name) and banned BOTH the mod and me, from DPR. A moderator banned a moderator lol.

You say that is false, I don't want to believe you are calling me a liar so why not ask the former Coolpix moderator?

it is good to gather info not only from one side, unless you want to believe the Coolpix mod is also lying.

I am not going to keep arguing about that mako guy, not worth my keyboard time.

    Have a great weekend.

@TomAxford - On reading this thread, what comes into my mind is the term "Lynch mob". I think it is a pity that it was ever started."

I think its a pity you would think that way Tom. Is it not refreshing to have open, honest, free thinking opinions that isn't stymied by heavy handed Moderators. Members are now able to have a voice rather than being leashed to some draconian rules. Why be the type of prisoner that is too frightened to be released into society. Ever see dogs unleashed and run amuck enjoying their new found freedom, but then settle down to appreciate that freedom allowed. The dust will settle, but discussion should always be allowed, and never ever end up being anything like what was at the last site people are jumping ship from...

In a cursory scan of this thread, it seems that people who Mako has banned want to get back at him by banning him on DPRevived. Is that correct?

  • April 29, 2023, 8:28 p.m.

True enough, but if I was forced to bet my house on whether you or I had a worse time with Mako I's be quite confident that I'd be the one left with somewhere to live. There are some here who know all about it. But either of our personal histories is completely irrelevant - as is the 'tiny little violin'. He's never asked for sympathy and I've never offered any. all I've said is we deserve to give him gratitude for his role in the DPReview chaos (his role countering it, that is) and that were he to want a role as facilitator (which is entirely hypothetical) he should be put through due process as everyone else. That is all. No heartbreaks.

I think the original purpose was to ask if he was going to be a moderator on here. It sort of went on from there...

  • April 29, 2023, 8:32 p.m.

And usually ends with horrendous results - because it's hopelessly simplistic. The worst mods on DPR were frequently guilty of playing to the worst mob instincts, and making them elected just encourages that - democracy is great, but it can go unstable really easily. The process needs to be based on collective democratic principles, but making that kind of role directly elected generally ends in tears.

@TomAxford. Thank you for broaching the term. I didn't want to have to.

    If the cap fits..

It doesn't look like DPR followed the model I suggest - rather it was the model you think works?

    @Stig has written:
what comes into my mind is the term "Lynch mob"

That was a quote by Tom Axford. Not by Stig!

What I would like to see is more respect for other people, including people we disagree with.

  • April 29, 2023, 9:06 p.m.

Actually, I now know exactly the event you're talking about, and I've had information from all three sides. I would think I could make a case in a court as to what happened on the balance of probabilities, if not beyond reasonable doubt. I cannot make this public, and that is as much as anything out of respect for you. The other moderator is in the same position. I think not continuing with this discussion is in everyone's interest and I really think that it's best that you don't continue with this accusation.

I'd love to see a return of stocks... just to authenticate your thinking, which is wrong of course.

  • April 29, 2023, 9:08 p.m.

I know, messed up the post.

  • April 29, 2023, 9:09 p.m.

False dichotomy. What DPReview did and directly elected moderators are not the only alternatives.

Where was the disrespect? To you or the Moderators?
