This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

    Subject: Gold Canyon

When I was traveling a month ago, we took a trip up Gold Canyon towards Virginia City, Nevada. Last week I showed a little of this old historic town.

I took the first nine pictures from the car as a passenger. I find it challenging and fun to do this from the car. I hope you like seeing something different than the usual tourist attractions or wildlife that I may show.

Gold was discovered in Gold Canyon in 1859 as placer deposits. Eventually the prospectors found the lode source of this gold further up the mountain, along with copious amounts of silver. It is one of the richest places on the earth.

The photos you are about to see are presented in chronological order as we traveled up on the road.

Photo No. 1 - Here we see Gold Canyon.

    Photobygms,

Yes, summer can be dry, except when they receive thunderstorms. This is on the east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where they receive less rain and snow.

    Photobygms,

Oh that's neat to see something different from you. We see some lynx, deer, and a fox. The lynx looks like the bobcat that we have here in Oregon. I read that a bobcat is a type of lynx. Did you find a lot of stalagmites and stalactites in the cave?

Yeah, being a tourist means you will visit other things than usual 😆
a Bobcat is a red lynx says Wikipedia that also means they are related to ours the Eurasian lynx.
Luckily there was some light during the cave visit and yes we did see both and also the columns when both "collide"

And for today the weather forecast was a bit better, no rain and also the sun should show up.
And we did see the sun during a short hike. A nice hike close to Bad Fredeburg in the Naturpark Sauerland-Rothaargebirge.

    Photobygms,

I hope you are continuing to enjoy your vacation (holiday). The countryside looks a lot like Oregon, with the tall skinny trees. Although, there seems to be more greenery there than what we have, since typically during the summer months we have dry weather.

We are still enjoying our holiday with better weather than the forecast says😎
Little recap, have been online much due network issues and maintenance on the local network here
Two days ago we did go for a "short" 8 km hike near our apartment and became lazy so we took a chairlift up 😁
    Not this one:

But there are actually a few around here that do operate during summer season

Decided to go for a hike near the source of the River Ruhr
The source of the river was a bit of a disapointment, but the hike was nice👍

That's great you went on another hike. I did read about the Ruhr River. It's huge. I'm assuming finding the source of that river was a disappointment because you probably are in the dry season. I really like the pink flowers. It's nice to see the cows too. They look like something that could be found in Texas (well, sort of). 😀

    Mtgoatee,

The first photo is quite spectacular where you captured some bright areas within dark shadows. I particularly like the last picture too.
