This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

    Subject: Some Early Roses

On May 24th I went to a rose garden. Most of the rose plants did not have flowers, but there were a few early ones. I would expect now that we should find a lot more, since we have had quite a few more sunny days lately. So I hope you enjoy what I could get.

These days I spend a lot of time photographing dogs in a very large municipal shelter. About 6,000+ dogs come through the door each year, and I try to photograph as many as I can, usually at least 50 a week.

Here are a few from yesterday's shoot.

Marvelous Mary, who was adopted a year ago and showed up again as a stray several weeks ago. She is a volunteer favorite.
    20240609_0412s_pawparazzi_Marvelous_Mary_A0053871889_web.jpg

Eucalyptus, one of three who liked to catch cheese yesterday.

Comic Book Guy. At 86 pounds, he is one of the biggest pups in the shelter.

    Grandpa Simpson

Snow White. I imagine she will be adopted quickly.

Dandy Boy. It's heartbreaking when the older dogs wind up in the shelter.

Apricot. I bet she will be scooped up quickly.

    Digi,

The rhododendrons are gorgeous. I am surprised that your roses are at least a month behind ours. We are at a latitude of 48° N here, which is approximately the same as yours.

    David,

Thanks. I took pictures of the roses on May 24th and 25th. For us the amount of rose flowers we will see depends on whether or not we had a lot of cloudy weather (we did have a lot of clouds in the month of May). Since we have gotten quite a bit of sun lately, the rose plants should be filled with flowers now. I hope to go back later to see the rose flowers. The month of June is best since that's the time the rose flowers are fresh.

    Andrew,

The pictures are beautiful showing at times dramatic scenes of stormy weather. A quick search of the North and South Ulst, shows us these are islands in Scotland. Do you live there or were you visiting the area? If you were visiting, how did you arrive there? With the rains, wind and waves, getting there by boat might have been rough. The field of flowers is so pretty.

Thank you, it's a special place which takes most of the credit!

The Outer Hebrides, northern islands that stand alongside the Atlantic Ocean. Characterised in Whisky Galore and photographed by Paul Strand in Tir A'Mhurian.

Visiting, they are quite remote and very wild in the winter. We like to get there once a year because it is a different place and quite special, something that doesn't always hit you until you leave.

I'd love to tell tales of daring and courage at sea, but the truth is that if you travel from Uig in Skye it's only 1hr and 45 across The Minch which is fairly sheltered water by comparison and even blowing sixes and sevens it's rarely uncomfortable on a modern ferry. The West Coast is a different story, and 40 miles west nor'west is St Kilda

The Machair (mac'ca). The sand blows fair inland on the west facing coasts by a mile or so, and forms a band of the most fertile land in the islands. In the summer these are filled with small wild flowers giving an annual bloom. Google "Hebrides Machair"

    P.s. Loved the cars!

Thank you Steve, that was the first day there, just over from the ferry. Set up the caravan and walked the mile to the beach, it was quite wild at times but dramatic.

    Andrew,

Thanks for the detailed explanations. I enjoyed reading about your experiences visiting the area. That sounds like a fun place in summer.

I'm glad you liked seeing the cars too. 😀

    Subject: Pretty Hedge Flowers

Yesterday I was walking by a house, where I saw this hedge all neatly trimmed. There were all of these pretty flowers. Since the flowers were on a hedge like this, there were no depth of field issues (because of the even straight cut). I had to use a very slow shutter speed, since it was getting dark in the shadows of the house while the sun was setting. I could have opened the aperture a little more also to something like F7.1, but I didn't think about that until later.

I'm uploading these pictures, not because they're the greatest of pictures, but for the story they tell.

I would not have believed it, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes - and so close to the house too.

It proved to me that the groundhog mother and the outdoor cats can co-exist in harmony.

In the second picture, the mother cat looks on unconcerned. The groundhog is no threat to her kitten.
