This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

Yesterday, I went with a group to Mauthausen, a former concentrtion camp near Linz which was celebrating the 80th anniversary of its liberation. (There are lots of details about this camp on Wikipedia)

Despite the four-hour coach journey (there and back), and a two hour-plus wait to get to the heart of the action, I was very glad to be able to go. There were participants from all over the world, numbering about 20,000. Because of this, it was impossible to take many photos without people right in the line of sight. Another problem was that I was holding my lunch and rain jacket in a bag with my left hand while using the camera with the right -- not ideal! So I only got three photos that are any good!

While approaching the main memorial area, I passed this mermorial to Hungarian prisoners.

Eventually we got to the front of the line and the name of our group was called. I snatched this photo of the floral tributes.

    L1002286_2b.jpg

This is the memorial to Jewish prisoners -- who were by no means the only category in this camp.

There are never any animals or birds to be seen in places like this.

Nice pictures again @Digirame and @davidwien.
I do live reasonable close to Westerbork (Durchgangslager) or Camp Westerbork. And every may 4 (remembrance day) and 5 liberation day) there are many people visiting and paying their respects (if that is correct spelling)

The weather is still great with temperatures reaching 20c and more. (perhaps just a bit to warm for this time of the year)
With Mothers-day on the sunday, we went out for a hike on the saturday 😀
Visited a reserve we haven't been before and yet only about an half hour drive from home.
Country estate De Klencke a nice reverse we found out 😁

    David,

Thanks for sharing your photos from your trip. What I do to keep the hands free, is carry side bags (with straps) for each camera and lens. I carry a soft cloth and a pocket umbrella in each bag too. If I have food & water to bring, I keep that in a backpack, to separate that from the gear in case of spillage. I have to be careful with using the backpack. One time I was on our local train and I almost left it behind. I jumped off the train through the open door at the train station and realized I forgot my backpack. So I quickly jumped back on and retrieved it. So now if I take the backpack off so I can sit down properly, I wrap the strap of the backpack around my leg, so I would notice it right away if I would jump off the train. It took me once of making this error, for me to learn how to avoid that in the future.

    Photobygms,

It looks like you had a great time in beautiful weather. I liked seeing all of the large trees at the reserve...nice to see flowers and a bird too. Is that a fox in the sixth photo?
