The Weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Starting 13 May 2024 Any Brand

This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

I ran across a little tip that I thought I'd pass along.

If you want to calculate the affect you would get if you slap on a 10 stop Neutral Density filter, but don't have an Exposure Calculator app handy, take a normal meter reading and without changing your aperture or ISO, multiply your shutter speed by 1000.

Examples:

1/250 = .004
.004 X 1000 = 4 seconds

1/320 = .003
.003 X 1000 = 3 seconds

1/500 = .002
.002 X 1000 - 2 seconds

For a 3 stop filter, it works the same way. Just multiply by 8 instead of 1000.

1/500 = .002 X 8 = .016 or 1/60th
1/320 = .003 X 8 = .025 or 1/40th
1/250 = .004 X 8 = .032 or 1/30th

I like seeing the purple lily flowers. They are beautiful. Later this summer I hope to take pictures of some white ones that grow in the same pond where I find the Wood Ducks.

This is one of the areas I look for wildlife. I was out there about six days ago. At this pond I'll often see white egret and heron. But this time I got nothing but a plane flying in the sky with the Tamron 150-600mm lens. At least I found some purple flowers. 😀

Today I was walking in a park and something happened unexpectedly. This hummingbird landed on a dead tree branch and I had my Tamron 150-600mm lens with me. So I was able to take quite a few pictures of it. Here's one of them.

Subject: Night Time Air Show

Last evening in our area we had a night time air show with a fireworks display. I had never gone before. I wasn't sure what settings to use, so I experimented with a few of them. Fortunately, this camera does fairly well up to ISO12800 (with a little noise).

Remember this thread extends through the weekend, so go grab some photos and let's see them. 😀

Photo No. 1 - I walked with some people to a certain location to get some "free" photos of these planes flying at night, outside the airport fence boundary. They knew where we could get some reasonably unobstructed views without trees or buildings blocking it.

This is going to be interesting to see play out. The groundhog is now comfortable enough to graze within eyesight of the cats.

Just out of camera range, two baby groundhogs have emerged on the scene.

I hope to get pictures of them in the days to come.

How will the cats react?

Will they co-exist? Will there be a fight for territory? Will the cats' carnivorous nature take hold?

It's going to be interesting.

That is interesting. It's my general understanding that house cats are not fast enough to catch squirrels. But someone told me a long time ago that they knew someone that had a cat on a farm and that cat could catch the squirrels just the same as if they were rats or mice. That's just something I've heard. Other than that, I don't know a whole lot about cats. So in your case, I would think it would depend. If the cats were so inclined that could attack the ground hogs like they were squirrels, rats or mice but maybe they won't. Let us know what happened. 😀
