This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

    Subject: Clouds

On last week's thread we were talking about rain and snow. We also finally are starting get some more clouds and rain too. We like seeing it after a long dry summer. Here's one photo I took yesterday that shows these clouds with the blue sky.

I'll be back with more photos in a little bit. 😀 Thanks everyone last week for a great participation. The number of photos and replies are growing all because of you, each one of you that are out there using your cameras and showing us these images. You all are doing great! Cell phone images are welcome too. I've started using my newer cell phone for some photos also. I'm trying to understand the differences, which is something we can discuss if you would like to talk about it with photos taken with your camera and cell phone.

    Alan,

That's great. We see such a beautiful sky with the clouds and colors. That must be at an RV park. The cell phones are so nice to have when we see a sunset. We may not have the camera with us and sunsets change so fast, that it's handy to pull out the phone and take a few pictures quickly. With my latest and greatest phone, I'm fascinated at how the quality of the images have improved. Yes, there's still limitations, but sometimes as you show they are a great tool.

Subject: Air Show - Part I

Previously I mentioned that I was at an air show. Well, here's the first set of pictures. 😀 It was cloudy that day which was good for one reason and not so good for another reason. The airplanes fly to the south of us, so if it's sunny we get the light shining right at us. But with clouds, the planes are not as crisp and sharp too. But there's another issue. Sometimes the planes would make so much smoke that that would affect the images too. So all of that must be taken into account. I took "tons" of pictures, but I have limited them to just a few.

Photo No. 1 - I first started looking at the static displays of the aircraft. The plane nearby was huge.

Photo No. 2 - This family was inside the yellow ropes for this aircraft. They must have gotten special permission to sit there by themselves to watch the planes fly overheard. People could view the inside of this plane as you all can see with the long line.

    Lens Model - RF24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM

Photo No. 4 - Near one of the places I took photos, I saw this mirrorless Canon R7 camera to the left of the guy standing. I've wondered how different they are to use, compared to my DSLR cameras. I found it easier to use the DSLR OVF, but I don't have the latest mirrorless models either.

    Subject: Northern Flicker Woodpecker

A few days ago I was able to find and photograph a Northern Flicker woodpecker. I was lucky that the bird was in a good position for the sunlight that day. There were thin clouds in the background. Shortly after taking this picture, the woodpecker flew away to another branch in a place that did not make it as easy to photograph. So I was happy that I got at least this one.

I thought you all would like to see something in a little more bright lighting. Lately with the clouds returning to our area, it's been rather dark at times. Today it is forecast to have light showers.

    Subject: September Wood Ducks

On the day I found the woodpecker last week, I went to the ponds where I would often find the wood ducks in the autumn and winter. They appeared to have returned a little early this year. I was not able to get close to them yet. They can be extremely shy. Even though I have a lot of photos of them from previous years, it's always challenging to see what photos I can get when I go out looking for them.

Photo No. 1 - We see a male wood duck.

Photo No. 2 - Now we see two juvenile wood ducks. At least I believe that they are juveniles. The one on the right side may be a male, with the green color starting to be seen on its head.

Photo No. 3 - The lily plants begin to go dormant during the colder months. So eventually they will all disappear. Then I won't have those distracting elements, that is the distracting lily leaves. In this photo, you can see in part where the lily leaves are still remaining and the section where they are not at, allowing the wood ducks a path to travel.

The advantage of waiting for autumn and winter is also that the tree leaves surrounding the ponds will be mostly gone, allowing more sunlight to come on in. Plus in autumn I'll often get the red, orange and yellow reflections from remaining leaves on the trees...along with green and blue. So, we'll see whether I get lucky or not this year. I have to work on getting them to trust me, so that they will swim closer so I can get some good ones. Usually if there's mallard ducks or geese that swim close to me first, eventually they can get more comfortable with me standing by the side of pond.

Here's a couple of photos of the wood ducks that I got last year. It's always fun and challenging to be able to capture them. I also prefer to find them on sunny days. But with the increasing clouds and rain as we enter the rainy season, that can be difficult.

    Photobygms,

Thanks. I totally understand. While I'm taking pictures, I have also numerous other things I do also. It's a never ending job of working on something, one thing or another. We appreciated your vacation photos last week. That will be nice when they finish the home renovation.
