This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

I was out in the city today and the sun, very low in the sky, tempted me to take a picture of this interesting building. It is in the Graben (Fifth Aveue/Bond St equivalent) and for many years was the home of Julius Meinl, a food store known for its brand of coffee. About a year ago, they moved next door. Perhaps the rent was unreasonable. There's no reason to think that Louis Vuitton cannot afford it!

    Subject: Fallen Leaf Lake Falls

During my October vacation, I wanted to visit a falls I had seen many years ago near Fallen Leaf Lake, just outside of Lake Tahoe. But because of the dry summer we had, the falls was almost nothing. So if someone wanted to see these falls, it would be best to come in late spring when the snow melt was at its highest.

Photo No. 1 - We took a very narrow road to get here first. It was a beautiful sunny day. The falls would be in the lower part of the image, but there was almost no water running.

    David,

That is an interesting building with its ornate design and statues at the top. You did well with this photo, making it pleasant to see with the shadows and the bright sunny section. Did you use software to assist in creating that?

@davidwien That building does stand out, perhaps the color is the reason they moved next door 😂

@Digirame, That looks like a nice area for some hiking, rent a cabin and stay off-grid for a while 😎

    Photobygms,

Thanks. Yes, it would be a good area to get away from it all. The narrow road to this area would discourage a lot of travelers, so there's not a lot of people. At times we had to pull off to the side of this narrow road to let another car pass that was going towards us in the opposite direction.

We did have a nice weekend again, and with some nice weather a perfect option for a hike again😎
Sunny with a few clouds and a decent temperature, a temperature that is more or less normal for the season finally
We visited a area close to our home and followed a hikingtrail through the country side around the, Deurzerdiep a small local stream.
And a nice opportunity to test our new gear again. 😉

For the time being no more new gear will be added. we're happy how it all turned out with the trade-in offers and black friday price drops on some of the gear and happy the the new set-up.
Perhaps when the RF 50 F1.4 will be available or when I find a RF 50 F1.2 for a nice price I might get one.

I always shoot raw and use Photolab. In this case the top of the building was quite bright, so I exposed for that and brough the shadows up a little in Photolab. Otherwise, the lower dark parts would be almost invisible. It is really quite dark here at present during the day.

I think it was something more banal, less artistic. There are lots of nice buildings in that street. The problem is being there when the sun is at the right angle.

    Photobygms,

That's nice you had such nice weather. I'm glad you are enjoying your new gear. I also bought a Black Friday camera and lens. It should arrive in a few days. Seeing your wildlife photos make me itching to go out more too. I like seeing the cow.

We came across this waterfall while walking around Ji Chang Garden, Wuxi, China.

The overall lighting is largely artificial (done in post). I wanted to highlight the waterfall more while maintaining the layers of green.

If you are asking me, it's because I don't assume everyone here visits everywhere else the image is viewable.

I don't visit every forum here on dprevived, at least not on a regular basis.

ChrisOly also often posts his images in Roel's weekly thread and then in other threads on dprevived; I assume for the same reason as me.

    Dan,

I like the contrasts between the very dark sections and the bright colors. Both are very nice. You did that very well during post processing.

That's interesting that you took this picture with the Canon T3i (600D) camera. That camera is quite old. I still have mine somewhere archived.

  • Dec. 3, 2024, 7:13 a.m.

So is the photo (2014-04-17), taken when the camera was much closer to state of the art.

Thank you Digirame. I'm glad you like them.

I still have it but use it now only when I need a second camera for some reason.

That photo was taken a few years ago during one of our trips to China.

I'm in Seattle this week for work. I wanted a room with a view, yet close enough to our office so I could walk to work in the morning. After consulting google maps for walk-ability, I settled on a place with a "waterfront" view, that google assured me was only a short 10 minute walk to the office. What it failed to tell me however, was that the walk had a steep grade, and would require climbing 100s of stairs. I showed up at work all sweaty this morning, but managed to snap a few clicks along the way. Critique away.

    The view from the room:

    Mtgoatee,

I hope you enjoy your trip in Seattle. The water at Puget Sound looks so peaceful. We've had a few dry days in the Pacific Northwest, so hopefully you'll be able to continue taking pictures without too much rain. In particular, I liked seeing the tall building that was surrounded by the cloud at the top.
