This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

Nice shots, and just curious how many goslings and ducklings did survive those first few weeks?
Herons and other birds of prey do like them also (for a meal)

    Photobygms,

Thanks. It is my guess that most of these young birds will survive at this location. I've only seen one heron and one eagle at this park. That heron seems to be content on catching fish at a nearby pond. The eagle is not here very often; sometimes I've seen it high above in one of the trees.

she did very well, very talented muso, but after 18months booked out every weekend she got bored and the 3 hour gigs were just to long, she said
playing live gigs is not what its cracked up about. its a lot of had work and setups take time before and after the gigs. she is a science teacher and said its easyer money for the amount of work needed. i enjoyed it while it lasted.

Thanks! I really want to climb that in winter, but it's kind of dangerous (people die all the time on it, despite it not being that high up or difficult of a climb when the snow is gone), and a guide my wife found turned out to not be qualified for that. She found some other guides who can, but it's expensive (for me), but I want to do it before I can't.

It's Japan -- the Yatsugatake mountains. I think it takes me 7 hours to get up and down during summer (as I was saying to Donald above, I've never summited in winter), so not that difficult (although the last half is pretty steep, as you can tell). Here's a photo of my wife's dad somewhere at the top (I think a bit left of the central peak -- we hiked up to right of the central peak, then crossed over to the left, then down):

    じいじ.jpg

In fact, I just made a framed metal print of that photo to give to him when my wife goes this summer (I'm not going until winter).

Wow...what a wonderful experience that is, to be able to do so much climbing and be able to photograph it. 😀

It absolutely is! But, it's not only me (these are from the top of a different mountain range, though):

    南アルプス1.jpg

    南アルプス2.jpg

One thing about hiking in Japan is the sheer number of "old" people. I mean, there are 60, 70, and 80 year old people climbing these mountains! In fact, my wife's dad who I climb with, complained to my wife that I go too fast. I couldn't believe it when she told me -- "Are you kidding me?! I stop for one minute to take a couple of photos, and it takes me ten minutes to catch up to him!"

Mostly, however, the "more mature" hikers are really slow -- taking their time to enjoy the hike. But my wife's dad is a speed demon, even at his age (although I haven't climbed in Japan since Covid -- have only gone in winter recently and I got a bike so have been biking instead). In the past, when we climbed, we passed tons of people and no one passed us. Then one day on a hike, some guy literally ran past us. No backpack, no water, no nothing! Just running up the mountain! So I stopped bragging about climbing fast after that. : )

'Tis, indeed! However, if it's more than a day trip, I stay in the mountain house rather than carry a tent -- can't carry a tent, camera, and lenses, so something has to give! : )

Again, those are some spectacular photos. That's so neat that you are so athletic to be able to do hiking like that.

I'm a wuss and don't take chances. My wife's father, on the other hand... Once when he visited us in the US, we went to Zion. We took a hike, and at one point there was a sheer rock face cliff that was maybe 200m high. He literally ran right to the edge, stopped, and looked down. I was like, WTF?! If there had been loose sand, that would have been the end of him. And in Japan, some mountains have these short knife ridge portions to cross. He just runs across them and waits on the other side laughing at me as I wobble across.

Thanks! There's going to be a day that I can't do it anymore. I've had a couple of "events" where I felt that day was the day, and I didn't like it at all. So, until then, do it while I can!
