This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

    Subject: Parasailing

Here's some more photos of parasailing I took on my vacation in July. I liked seeing these with the clouds. I hope you do too.

Edit: The more I looked at these images, the more I realized that they could have been better. Photobygms was right. So today on 9-4-24, I thought I would change them a little.

    Subject: Airshow

Today I went to an airshow. For us in the US, it was a holiday, celebrating labor giving most people a three day weekend, Friday through Monday. We call it Labor Day; that's why the airshow was today. I'll be busy for a while sorting through them. Here's one photo. I've got many more from a total of three cameras and lenses.

Even though I was only using a wide/standard lens on this camera, I thought I would try to take a few with this mirrorless camera of the planes in the sky. I find it's easier to see and use the DSLR cameras for airshows, but it seems I should try to practice more with this one.

Nice parasailing shots, only I think I might have made the clouds stand out a bit more with more highlight and or contrast 😋
The R series can perfectly used for airshows with longer lenses (adapted through EF-RF adapter or native lenses).
I still find shooting moving objects with telelenses going better while using the EVF just like you would do with a SLR

Still have nice weather but a low pressure system is getting closer so we might have some rain and lower temperatures in the valleys where we are staying.
Visited and hiked a viewingpoint called Schynige Platte. This place can be reached with the www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/corporate/jungfrau-railways/berner-oberland-bahnen-ag/schynige-platte-railway/
This little train doesn't go fast a single trip up or down is about an hour, but you'll have nice views while enjoying the ride😎

Decided to pack some more gear this time but hiking with a backpack and the Sigma 60-600 can be tricky while hiking, climbing steep passages.

    Photobygms,

Thanks for the comment about the parasailing photos. I agree that some post processing could have helped. At the time, I think it was just a matter of the atmospheric conditions present.

So, I adjusted one of them like this.

    Photobygms,

Thanks for the comments about the Canon RP that I used a little at that airshow. Another thing that frustrated me with it in addition to the EVF, was that I could not get the autofocus to work on the planes in the cloudy sky (it just locked up). So I changed the autofocus in the menu and that helped. I think a person just has to keep using it and try different lenses. So, in time I'll do that. I have my eye on something like a Canon R7 and R8 or both or maybe something else. But meanwhile, I have plenty of toys now that I'll use before upgrading any more. But I could be tempted with another Black Friday special...we shall see.... 😀

By the way...the Canon RP is great...just not the best for me yet at airshows. 😀 Unfortunately, I only go to one or two airshows a year, so I'll have to wait before trying to use it again.

    Photobygms,

It looks like you are in photography heaven...wow...great photos again. That's interesting that you brought the large telephoto lens with you. I sometimes do the same on long hikes, but most of the time I find I do not use it while hiking around scenic areas such as you show. That is, unless I find some wildlife. But we never know...so it's sometimes better to have it than not. And it keeps us in shape too, carrying all of that weight. 😀

In the last photo, I liked seeing the cow look back at you. You were relatively close, close enough at that short focal length of 70mm so that you got adequate depth of field.

So, earlier this week, i got myself a new phone - a OnePlus 12. It's got a reasonable camera on it and I used it tonight for some sunset pictures. Have a look - these are full size JPGs, straight from the camera. Taken a 1x, 2x and 3x (so using different lenses, I think).

    Alan,

I like the first and third pictures the best with the yellow colors. I was reading about your OnePlus 12 phone. It seems like there are three sensors for each of the three lenses for the main camera. One sensor has 48 megapixels, one has 50 megapixels and another has 64 megapixels. The selfie camera has 32 megapixels. Is that correct?

Cell phones are becoming so popular for photography, that even at the airshow I attended yesterday, a lot of people were using them instead of cameras. I still find that surprising, but it's all too common.

  • Sept. 3, 2024, 9:51 p.m.

    Yes, I think that's correct.

I was at Warner Studios Harry Potter experience in London today. I took my Fuji X-T5 and the phone. I ended up just using the phone because it was just more convenient and the quality wasn't that much worse.

Here's a couple of examples - the Fuji one has been resized because it's 22mb and I'm on a slow connection.

    Photobygms,

Those are great. I am so glad you took some of these images during inclement weather. It gives us a nice perspective of times when there's clouds or rain. Is that a squirrel? It looks healthy and well-fed.

I hope you don't let the wet weather stop you from your hikes on your vacation (unless it's pouring or dangerous). I'm the same way. I bring multiple umbrellas with me. Of course, I like to pick the better days to go out, but sometimes we just have to make the best of it. In our area, we have temperatures forecast to be as high as 100 degrees F. for the next few days. That's about 38 degrees C. It's quite unusual where we live, but with global warming we keep hearing about record heat levels.

And another rainy day, but still nice to go out for a ride with a few different local trains 😁
    Made a nice roundtrip:
    Grindelwald - Zweilütschinen - Lauterbrunnen - Mürren - Lauterbrunnen - Wengen - Männlichen - Grindelwald
This trip we took 4 different trains and 3 different cablecars.
