This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

    Subject: Art in the Park

About 4 days ago I went to a park to find some more Hooded Merganser ducks in some ponds. I didn't find any, but I did find this art in the park.

    FocalLength - 30 mm

Photo No. 3 - On the left side of this image we see another volleyball net. But I did not see anyone playing there.

Photo No. 4 - OK, this photo is what prompted me to identify this art in the three previous pictures. I liked this photo with the shadows, but I thought it would be interesting to explain more about what this was. I hope you like it.

Today, being Whit Monday, was another public holiday in Austria. Most people seem to take a long weekend and go out of town. Consequently, the streets were uncannily quiet. No building on the road, and I am not impressed by the progress made since I last walked past:

    L1000114_b.jpg

On the other side of the road, from the same spot. I reckon there's at least another year's work to go before we can reclaim the sidewalk here:

    L1000111_b.jpg

Another house with intricate decoration well above the sightline:

    IMG_7614_b.jpg

And the extension to the school that can be seen in the background -- nearly done here!

    L1000118_b.jpg

I dont normally make a thing of photographing brick walls, but I noticed that a 100% crop of this is quite impressive, if you are a fan of such things...

    L1000118_c.jpg

I was using my recently acquired K&F 1-5 stop ND filter on the Leica, as the sun was so bright. This avoids impossibly short exposures with wide apertures.

    Dig,

At first, I was tempted to say that those are musical scales, but each group of pillars has ten posts, and I can't find any musical scale that is composed of ten notes.

So, I don't know what that is supposed to represent.

    David,

It's good to see your photos again around Austria. You have lots of sunlight too. It must be getting nice & warm.

Sometimes we also have construction activities that take a long time. In those cases, I wonder what deadlines there are and for missing those deadlines, do the construction companies have to pay extra for being late? I suppose it could get complicated if there are many construction companies working on the same project. Or it could get delayed by government inspections or regulations.

    Steve,

Sometimes this art does not make any sense. Some may call it "modern art". All I know after a bit of walking around the park, the concrete benches were nice to sit on. I suppose I could show the benches on the "lonely bench" thread. Where have we seen benches like that? 😀

    Dig,,

The way the columns are angled and curved, it looks the are structured in such a way as to catch the prevailing wind and funnel it to the benches. I wonder if they "sing" at a particular time of day. 😀

    It wouldn't surprise me.

    Steve,

I don't know if the columns would sing with enough wind. But it would be nice to know if the columns were constructed a certain way for a purpose or meaning.

There are no posters advertising any company, so I am pretty sure that this is entiredly done by the state. I am also certain that there is a department that does the generous estimates, and that the job is done at a pace that makes sure the estimate was correct! There is never any urgency to be seen on the ground (even on the urban freeways, no overnight working with lights as in other countries), very few workers, no work on weekend or public holidays, of which there are many here. It is all part of the Austrian mindset!

This site is one of many around the city -- including the new subway line -- much of which takes place in the spring and summer months. It looks very bad for the tourists. I have never known a city that has as much construction work going on on a continual basis!

    Subject: Three Hummingbird Pictures

Hi all. 😀 Previously last week, I showed a photo of a hummingbird. Well here's three more. The hummingbird kept coming back to the same spot, so I had many chances. Unfortunately, I did not have much sun. On the last photo a little bit of sunshine was there as you can also see by the light blue sky in the background. This was one of the rare times I had been able to get pictures like this of a hummingbird that was not at a feeder. I was also fortunate that the bird landed on a dead tree without leaves. The background was ideal too.

I hope these images encourage any of you that don't have a telephoto lens with at least 400mm FL, to consider buying one. This will definitely open up more possibilities for your photography.

i was wrong. As can be seen in this image, the company responsible is Strabag.

    L1000132_b.jpg

Their Wikipedia page, describes this as a company that has a long and checkered history, particularly during WW2. Unlike the Krupp concern, there is no mention to be found of any investigation of this in the 1940s or 50s. The company is almost 100% owned by three shareholders, one of which is the current CEO. The board president is a former chancellor of Austria. As I mentioned before, the company gets a lot of government work. I took this picture yesterday. It is now clear that the whole of the sidewalk on the rhs of the photo is being replaced -- hence the slabs now in the centre of the road.

Yesterday morning I came across another enormous crane in the neighbourhood.

    A closer view:

    L1000140_b.jpg

It was not clear what it was doing, but by the afternoon it was neatly stowed:

These enormous bits of kit seem to be taking over the city! I must admit that the design of them is impressive.
