    Subject: Weight Reducing Machines

Already after enjoying a huge Christmas feast, I've gained some weight. So it's back to normal activities with less eating...possibly doing more exercise. These machines at a park are perfect for that. About the rest of you? Did you enjoy your Christmas?

I think that Canon UK must have their own special offers, as is the case in Austria. But I dont recall that refurbished articles are offered in Austria. I have all that I need from Canon, however, so I may not be up to date on this.

    Alan,

I was able to find the UK Canon website. I don't see any refurbished cameras or lenses offered for sale. If anyone finds them, please let us know. The prices in the UK are higher that the USA. Is that at least in part because of a VAT tax?

To give you a comparison, I recently bought a refurbished Canon R8 with the RF 24-50mm lens for $899 (USD). That would be £715. The UK Canon website lists that at £1299.99 (not refurbished). That's about 82 percent higher in price, but I did also get a Black Friday discount of $270 (USD). Today that refurbished camera & lens kit is priced at $1169 (USD). That is £930, making the UK price now only about 40 percent more. So if you account for the VAT tax and it not being refurbished, that I think explains the price difference. I did not even see a Canon RP listed there. That's a nice older technology full frame camera.

To answer your question, I did check and found on the USA Canon website that they would not ship any of these refurbished cameras or lenses outside the 50 states or the District of Columbia. So unfortunately, they could not be ordered from the UK and shipped there from the USA Canon website.

    Digi,

I've looked in the past and never found Canon official refurbished ones. But thanks for the investigation.

Canon should do that all over the world. but it's USA only unfortunately...

We still have the same weather as the last two weeks more or less, So just a short hike through the Asserbos again today
With only the two R6-II cameras and a 24mm macro and the big 50mm.

    Photobygms,

I like your cloudy and foggy pictures. Thank you so much for showing them. You motivate me to go outdoors and take some too. We have continuously cloudy and rainy weather.

I agree that I wish Canon would have refurbished or lower special sale prices outside the USA too. But we don't know the details of why that is not the case. It might be because the USA consumes a high amount of world's resources, while only being about 5% of the world population. Being a high consumer country with allowances for refunds and returns and open box policies, that might be the reason that more refurbished cameras and lenses are available. But again, we don't know the details. That is, unless someone can provide us some insight on that.

    Digi,

Do you think that consumers in the US are more prone to return cameras for perceived faults that may not actually be real? I know that some manufacturers do not just put them back into stock, but after checking them out thoroughly sell them as "refurbished". Perhaps the relevant consumer laws are different in the USA. I dont know.

    David,

I don't know either. But I do know there's a lot of open box items available on Ebay. When I purchased some of them, I found the accessories were missing or faulty, but the main item was good. I got a steep discount for that. Once I was in a store and I asked them about open box items. They said I would have to ask them. They did not advertise lower priced open box items, but again a person could get a better price if you asked and they had it available.

Overall, I think USA consumer laws and store policies are liberal in that refunds and returns are common. In stores, there's a special place for people to return items. I don't know if they even have to give a reason, as long as they have a receipt. From what I read, it depends on the store policy and state laws.

So, that got me thinking.... So I did more investigating.... AI said that in 2023 14.5% of all consumer goods were returned in the USA (online and in-store purchases). Wow...that's shocking.

Edit again: I found that in the UK consumer items are returned at a even higher rate for online purchases. I never thought it would be so high.
