The Weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Starting 24 March 2025 Any Brand

This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

Subject: Old Barn

During my trip a little over two weeks ago, I was able to capture this old barn. The shutter speed was high because I took these while traveling as a passenger in a car.

Photo No. 1 - This old barn looks like it's ready to fall down.

Photo No. 2 - But it has been patched up repeatedly.

Photo No. 3 - So, we can appreciate this old structure today. 😀

Subject: Four Daffodil Flowers

Here's four daffodil flowers that I was able to keep all in focus. That was because I focus bracketed and stacked the image. I like that feature in the Canon R8.

Subject: Wood Ducks Out Of Water

Hunting for Wood Ducks has been fun for me. There are days getting close to them is nearly impossible. Then I have times like this....

Photo No. 1 - This time of year, the Wood Ducks are much less. I did see these two, but they naturally were hidden behind this vegetation.

Photo No. 2 - I walked very slowly to this an area under some trees and to my surprise I saw this pair of Wood Ducks. When I saw them I stopped. For I knew if I moved they would fly off quickly. By being still and patient I was able to get a few pictures like this.

Photo No. 3 - This Canada Goose got right in the way of my photo opp. It looked at me, as if to say "What?". 😀

Is that image cropped? I might have cropped it not that close to the flowers😉

Thanks. The daffodil flower photo was cropped only slightly for composition. On the original I had a little too much space on the right side and bottom. But it was only slight. I tried to see if I could keep everything in focus without bracketing and stacking the image, by using F20 and changing the location of the focus. But that did not do nearly as well as focus bracketing and stacking the photo. A person has to experiment with that feature. In the Canon R8 we have numerous ways of how to do that. It doesn't always do as well as we would like...we have to play around with it. Sometimes it's miraculous (so-to-speak) at how well the photo turns out.

That goose! I saw this unique opportunity to capture these two Wood Ducks out of water, and wouldn't you know it? It got right in the way. Fortunately, the Wood Ducks stuck around long enough, so I could get some more photos of them. 😀

Oh...and I'm glad you like the old barn. I had seen it previously, so I was ready and prepared to take a few photos of it at highway speeds.

After the bike tour last friday we had a more or less relaxed weekend. Decided to keep it all at a relaxed level 😂
My better half still compained about some sore muscles so ust a short stroll (just under 6km) on the sunday.
No backpacks with hiking and photo gear. both took our "duty belts" with one camera and lens and a bottle of water.
We started with some light rain, but the rain stopped and the sun did show up 😎

Well, I hope she feels better. Some athletes "earth" themselves to gain free electrons to recover quickly of sore muscles after an intense workout. I'm still reading about it; it's fascinating. The simplest way to do this without any cost, is to put the bare feet on the grass a few hours at a time...relaxing...reading a book etc.

Every time you show us variety. I like that. I also like seeing the fresh new life in the first photo. I did see a few green leaves also the last few days, in addition to the flowers. That's neat you found a frog. For me, they can be hard to photograph because when I see them at the edge of a pond, they jump in quickly. Once I saw a giant bull frog in summer that was so sluggish (apparently from the heat), that I was able to get a lot of pictures of it. It would have made a nice lunch snack for a heron or eagle etc. too. 😀 It's nice seeing the birds too. Your weather seems a lot like where we live, with a mixture of sun, clouds and a little rain at times.

Subject: Male Red-winged Blackbird

Here's a male Red-winged Blackbird I saw yesterday.

That's a bird we don't see in the wild in Europe.
Nice catch 😜

Thanks. 😀 I was lucky to catch the bird in some sunshine. Later today we are supposed to have thounderstorms and then rain for a few days after that.
