This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

Subject: Ring-necked, Hooded Merganser and Bufflehead ducks

On the last day of December 2024 I was playing around with the Canon R8. I could have used my crop sensor DSLR camera and the Tamron 150-600mm lens to get closer, but it was fun using this full frame mirrorless camera that I recently purchased. The first six photos show Ring-necked ducks, the next three are Hooded Merganser ducks and the last one is a pair of Bufflehead ducks. I cropped the eighth image significantly to get closer. From what I recall, the rest of them were only cropped a little when required for composition.

The water is a gray color because it was very cloudy. As a result also the ISO levels were very high. But fortunately it was not raining.

    Nice set with ducks again.
Which combi is better the R8 with the 100-400 or your DSLR with the Tammy 150-600?
I did like the Sigma 100-400c, 150-600c and the Sigma 60-600s on our DSLRs and on the R series with adapter but the RF 100-400 and also the RF150-500 on our R series are actually better.
I don't regret changing the Sigma's for Canon lenses 😉

    Photobygms,

Thanks. Overall the Canon T7i (800D) camera with the Tamron 150-600mm lens is better overall because it can get a lot closer with 960mm equivalent focal length versus 400mm equivalent focal length.

Here's one example with a similar type of condition at 450mm FL (720 equivalent FL). The Canon T7i (800D) tolerates ISO levels as high as 12800 given that there is enough lighting.

We did see a rare phenomenon again, Blue skies and one weird yellow thing in that blue sky 😎
Decided to stay close to home, visited the Ballooerveld reserve and followed different trail this time.
Some spots are still very muddy due all the rain we had lately.

    Photobygms,

I just love seeing all of that blue sky. That's good you all have a break from the rainstorms. I like seeing that tree in the third photo. In a way, it appears to be very old (mature) but at the same time healthy. What type of bird is that in the sixth photo?

That bird is a common pheasant
(shot with the RF 150-500 and 1.4x TC) 😉
