This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

    Subject: Wood Duck

I'm still post processing photos from our last trip. So I don't have a lot of photos ready yet. But here's a female Wood Duck I captured a few weeks ago. It was getting dark, so I needed to use ISO12800. This camera does surprisingly well at that level.

I do like that duck Digirame.

We didn't see many birds, but many mushrooms 😂
And while hiking again those mushrooms I did use for some further testing with the new Canon. RF 28-70 F2.8 IS STM.

    Photobygms,

Autumn is such a nice time to take pictures. I like how you showed the autumn scenes with the mushrooms and leaves. I also liked seeing a little bit of blue sky with the clouds.

I'm glad you enjoy your new lens too.

As someone who lived his early years close to Ilkley Moor in Yorkshire, this plant brings back memories, and I cant get over the fact that one can buy something so beautiful for €5.

I saw this really interesting phenomenon in the sky today.

There was this really big explosion, and a ball of fire shot across the sky.

(Not really. That's just the sun and a panorama stitched together. But it did create an interesting glow in just one spot).

That's gorgeous with the purple and green together. I love the background too.

    Steve,

That's interesting. I see the sunlight on the left. The glow has different colors. That must have fascinating. I don't think I've seen that previously, or if I have, it's not common enough for me to remember.

  • Oct. 29, 2024, 4:57 p.m.

    Thanks, Digi,

Actually, I am now wondering whether the colours are too saturated, though I didnt mess with them. I just put the pot on a neutral background, which happened to be a bed, and moved the LED lamp from the bedside table until I had enough light! So the background is just the out of focus bedcover...

I have modified the saturation a little and this probably is a more realistic representation of the real colours. What do you think: which version do you prefer?

I'm with Alan - and it looks "real" to me

For me less saturated looks almost real (I'm not sure about greens), but (like Alan) I too like oversaturated one :) Photos don't have to look real, after all.

    David,

I prefer the first one. Maybe you could try something that is saturated somewhere between the first one and the second one.

    Subject: September Wood Ducks

While taking other photos in September, I managed to squeeze in some more time to take pictures of the Wood Ducks while we still had good weather. Again, this camera handles high ISO values very well and I needed it because it was getting dark at times.

Some of you who do not take pictures of birds or are familiar with this type of bird, might wonder what's so special about Wood Ducks. First, they are colorful. Secondly, they normally are very shy. Not only do they prefer to stay far away from people, they often do not want us to even see them. So I often have to wait for hours sometimes, before a few of them will come close. First the mallard ducks come towards me. That helps I think because then they see that I'm not a threat to any of the ducks in the pond. This pond is a special place unlike any I've seen in our area, where I can get closeups of the Wood Ducks. I know things are not forever, so I appreciate the opportunity I have to take pictures of them. They often visit here in the autumn and winter. In the spring and summer they still might be found, but most of the time they are gone during those warmer seasons.

    Subject: Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!!! 😀 This year I did not take any photos of Halloween exhibits because of our trip. But I did find a little time today to take these pictures, thinking about Halloween. This was the best I could do in such a short notice.

Do any of you have Halloween pictures you want to share? 😀
