    Photobygms,

I enjoyed seeing your photos. I especially like the one with the stairs and secondly the photo showing the wooden walkway. We have wooden walkways like that too in wetland areas.

    Alan,

I liked seeing all of the colors in the first photo. We have a store with colorful displays like that at one of our beach towns. I often have to also take a picture of it. That's interesting to know that Hitler didn't want certain sections of Rochdale bombed. That's a good catch of the sun next to the statue of Gracie Fields.

    David,

That's nice to see the photo of the two menorah. Why are there too of them? What does that signify? I was out today taking a few photos and I found one that is similar. I was out at this location for the menorah first lighting last year. I don't know if I showed photos of it. This year the first lighting of the menorah was on Christmas, so I missed it.

The photo is not that good as it was late in the afternoon under dark cloudy skies. I also had the wrong white balance, but that was an accident. But I thought I would share it with you anyway. 😀 Happy Chanukah!!! And Happy New Year. 😀

    Mtgoatee,

I really like seeing the mountain sheep. You got the first one at a relatively short focal length with F9, so we see that nice deep depth of field. The second one is outstanding too. The windmill provides that energy to make it self-sufficient. We have some signs similarly that rely completely on small solar panels for electricity. The first picture inside the candy story is interesting, making me wonder what it is. I liked seeing the picture of the tram, with the tree, the snow and the mountains all together.

    David,

Did you have fireworks at midnight for the new year's celebration? The dogs I knew, just hated all that noise. That would keep them up.

Well, it's time to enjoy the day. I hope you have a good new year's holiday.

Thank you. The F9 was user error, a remnant from a previous scene. This scene only lasted a few seconds, and in my haste to get the exposure right, I cranked down the shutter a bit until auto iso (within limits) was happy, but failed to check the aperture. Ideally, I'd have liked aperture at around f/5.6, with a lower iso, but oh well. I find that the rear command dial on FF bodies that the 6700 lacks makes a huge difference when shooting fleeting scenes.

Funnily enough, I was wearing sun shades and ended up overexposing the scene despite my best efforts, and had to resort to software to bring out the details.

I was trying to use the "one way" sign, the electric pole, and the windmill to compose a scene that said "this is one way to generate electricity", but I'm not sure I was successful.

The first pic inside the candy store is a light they had on their ceiling. I thought that standing directly beneath it gave it a "flaming" look, but I ended up underexposing it a bit (again, thanks to the shades). And the second looks like a focus miss, dang.

On the tram, I see a bit of sewer pipe sticking up from the ground that I could have covered up with the tree, had I noticed it when shooting.

Subject: Final Router Update & Printer

Well, the old router really died. It would not come on at all. A long story short, after making the cable connections with the new router, I had to get it recognized. I don't know how I did it, other than ask Windows to troubleshoot for me. Then after that was successfully done, all the wired connections worked. Then I had to get the WIFI wireless connections to work with a password. Finally there was the printer and TV. The printer would not work at all. So for it I didn't know what to do, so I just deleted the printer device and reinstalled it all over again with the drivers. That worked. For the TV, I don't know what happened but it now works too. So hopefully I'll stay connected with you all. 😀 It helps to have great hacking skills. 😀 Happy New Year again.

If Mocha reads this...thinking about the printer...that Canon printer with the tanks still works great. I have not had any dried out ink or papers getting jammed. I try to print something out every week or so...sometimes longer if we are on a long trip. It sips ink compared to those ink cartridges. I love it. Thanks Mocha for recommending that type of printer for me to use. I had almost given up on any more home printers, after problems and problems and problems with them.

Could you tell me the model?

    Jan. 2, 2025, 11:34 p.m.

    Hi Bryan,

Yes, the model is a Canon G7000. I don't know if it is the best model as it was relatively inexpensive. But the color prints look great and I use it for other things too. I've been so glad to have it. Previously with older printers that had failed, I would save items to a flash drive and take it to Office Depot and have them print it out. But now, everything I need gets done at home quickly and there is no more jamming or dry ink. It took a little while to get used to using it. Each time I have to select properties and make sure I tell it to use the rear tray for the photos or the cassette for the regular plain paper etc. But now I'm used to it, so I rarely have issues with that. I bought a crazy amount of quality photo paper on Ebay for that model (at great reduced prices). That was a smart idea too. I wondered if people were just getting rid of their excess photo paper after their printer died, if they had older printers like I had.

So you might to check the reviews to see which ones would be best. But these ink tanks are the best that I have had. I think Photobygms has one too with the ink tanks. Hopefully he will see this and reply to you too.

    Thanks for that.

It's been a while since I have had a printer. I remember when printer companies started selling their consumer level printers cheap and making their money out of cartridges. It wasn't a cost effective option if one printed too much especially in colour. The bulk refillable ink tanks cost a lot less to run.

I got a G7020 too. I love the refillable tanks. They last forever, and the bottles are actually cheaper than the ink cartridges.

One downside is that the display panel is not backlit, so in low light, I need a flashlight.

I upgraded to Windows 11, and for some reason, it won't print with a cable now. I think there must be a driver missing, but I switched over to WiFi, and it works just fine.

Walmart sells these sheet magnets in a 5X8" size in their craft section. They have a sticky side and a magnetic side. I've printed a bunch of pictures in the standard 5X7", trim an inch off the magnet, slap them on any available metal surface and rotate them every so often.

    Hi Steve,

It's good to hear from you. Yes, I saw that the Canon G7020 was highly recommended after I replied. I don't have Windows 11 yet, although I could upgrade to it. But what I did with the printer connected with the cable, was delete the device (control panel---hardward and sound---printers and devices) and reinstall it like it was something brand new with my drivers. You may not want to do that, if you are happy with the wireless connection. Maybe there's some Canon G7020 drivers for Windows 11 on the Canon website. I was just hacking around, trying different things until I got it to work. I kept trying to find information on YouTube but hacking was faster. I just got lucky I think. That reminds me...I wonder what problems I (or we) will have if and when I (we) upgrade to Windows 11. There's always something....

I have the same issue with the display panel. Where the printer is located in our home the light is not very good, so I have to pull the lamp over closer to see it. I get real close to it also and try to read the letters. So, it's not an issue if a person uses better lighting like with a flashlight (torch). I'm glad to hear that you like your Canon G7020 printer and find that it sips ink also, unlike those horrible ink cartridges that were expensive and would dry up (at least that was my experience with them).

    Steve,

It's good to see your wintry picture, with an old tree, some leaves under cloudy skies. We have rain for three or more days. Then things may dry out. Lately a lot of my photos have been "gray". Even the ducks I have taken pictures of lately have been "gray" with all of the clouds we have. 😀

    Bryan,

I had so much trouble with those old printers. I really did not want to do it, but I ended up recycling three printers that were practically new. It was such a waste of money and resources with those ink cartridges. Then my laser printer jammed up and there was no way to remove the shredded paper. I spoke to Canon about it over the phone. The design was so horrible, that if the paper jammed in the wrong spot, the printer became worthless. The one I had was such that you could not even take it apart to remove the paper pieces.

But on the bright side the latest Canon G7000 has been really nice. I'm still using the original ink in the tanks. I think I'm only down to about the third of the way. I've made dozens of prints and use it almost every week.

Inktank printers are great, I have an Epson Ecotank ET-3850 series printer for a change after many Canon printers in the past.
Why Epson? got a better deal with that printer 😁
No more irritations with cartridges that got plugged nozzles or got empty sooner than expected. etc etc

That one is a bit out of my budget but he has some lesser sibling Ecotanks that get good enough reviews. I don't remember why but I always had a positive feeling about Epson. Could it have been because they didn't chip their cartridges (to stop the cheaper alternatives) as did HP and Canon?

After a sunny day yesterday, today the weather would be different. The forecast did mention some sun, lower temperatures, some light rain and even snow.
Visited the Balloërveld reserve again and I did see the sun, I had snow and some rain while hiking.

Wow...you sure have been showing us a lot of photos, especially since the weather has been so bad. It's so nice to see them. I like seeing the snow too.
