This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

While visiting a local village I noticed these indigenous art poles along the riverbank.

Researching them hasn't turned up a lot of info other than they are traditionally called Larrakitj, are made from hollowed out stringybark trees, and the images called miny’tji depict each clan's sign.

These are perhaps just showing general indigenous artwork.

@Digirame it looks a bit like something we do have in the Netherlands: castlefest.nl/en and www.elfia.com/en/

@Bryan They are nice and colorful 😎 I thought at first they were more like graffiti art or modern art 😉

We do had a day with rain, so no real hikes but we decided to go up to the Jungfraujoch (3463m) again to see if we could get fresh snow 😁
And yeah we did, the snow and wind were severe enough to close most viewingpoints. Temperatures did drop below zero.
while we did bring our Eos R and RP with us, just a few mobile phone photos while we stayed at the top at Jungfraujoch
A few from the train (did use the R)

    Bryan,

Those indigenous Larrakitj poles are interesting. We have something similar in our region, mostly to the north of us. They are called Totem poles. I've only seen them a few times.

    Photobygms,

That's neat. Seeing snow in early September must have been interesting. I see from the sign that the elevation is at 3571 meters...wow...that's high too. I'm glad you guys got out and didn't let the weather stop you all from having fun.

    Digirame,

I knew about Totem poles from my childhood but was totally unaware that the local indigenous people had something similar. Credit the white supremacist suppression of their culture / history for that...
I just found out that traditionally they were used for the bones of deceased in funeral rites, but also the images on them probably related some tribal aspects, stories or history.

    Subject: Vernonia

In early August this summer we visited Vernonia, a timber and agricultural town in Oregon. It's located in the Coastal Ranges.

Photo No. 1 - There was a parade that day in Vernonia. It was crowded with cars and people. Finally we found a place to park the car far from the central area of this town, where the parade was to happen. Then we walked for about a 1/2 mile. One of the first things I saw was this neat motorcycle.

    Subject: Ford Model T

A few days ago, I saw this Ford Model T. I wish I had taken a better picture of it. For the other day, I learned a little trivia why it was called a Model T. Do you know why it was called that? You might want to look it up and report back to me with an answer. 😀 It's kind of interesting. I mean there's no Model G, Model H, or Model M for example.

    Alan,

Thanks for participating and looking for the answer of why it was called a Model T. I agree; let's give the others a little more time. I thought it was fascinating, because I had heard that for years about the Model T, but never questioned why it was called that. Who would have thought it was for that reason? 😀

    @stevet1 thanks, and I have a few more 😉
With temperatures dropping a bit we got a snow line that dropped to about 1500m and while the rain/snow were predicted to keep falling we took the local train again to Kleine Scheidegg and did enjoy the fresh snow, not much snow but enough for some nice shots 😎

    Photobygms,

Those are really nice with all of that fresh snow. I appreciated them more when viewed at the larger sizes.

    Photobygms,

Your shutter speeds are off the charts.

Could you talk a little bit about your approach?

I would never have thought about using shutter speeds that high, especially in such low-light situations.

it is giving you wonderful pictures.

@stevet1, we did choose for a bit higher iso (400) because it was a bit greyish when we first arrived, and even with F10/11 with the wide angle (14-35) the shutter times were short, and with a clearer sky they became even shorter 😀
Not a very special approach, just didn't think things would clear up that much
Only thing that might have contributed to that approach both lenses are F4 versions so not the "brightest" ones 😆

So, you start with a set ISO first? And then pick an aperture and let your camera choose the shutter speed?
    Or are you in Manual?
