    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

    A few shots from Italy

I’m trying to select a few of my shots for a display simply called “Italy” 😊
Anything you find appealing here, in this set, that should definitely be included ?
Choosing is always the difficult part ;-)
    Thanks.

Next three for me (not that other ones are bad):

    Headwaters

Up in the high country far from the crowds close to the "Great Divide" lies the headwaters of the Gros Ventre river. The name is French for "fat belly" and was established by French trappers after the Native American tribe that lived in the area. The trappers interpreted a sign language gesture used by the tribe to mean "large belly."

Up at 10,000 feet the air is thin and cool and the sky is blue and the river flows West on its way to the Snake river evening winding toward the Pacific.

I'm particularly fond of these two.

I was looking for one of my photos of Jasper NP in Alberta and ran across my little set of Maligne Lake. Spirit Island may be one of the prettiest places I've ever photographed. Unless you have exceptional hiking ability or kayaking skills, the only way to get there is via a speedy park service shuttle boat, about a 30 minute trip. The ranger lets you out in this gorgeous place and tells you to take all the pictures you want but be back at the dock in 5 minutes.

The framing by the foreground trees of this image is very nice. Given you description I'm not sure you could moved a little to the right or not. I think that would have improved the juxtaposition of the foreground to the island and the island to the notch in the mountains.

Yes, there was room to the right, though not much to the left unless you got on the dock or put the dock in the frame. I wandered as much of the periphery as possible in the short time I had and ended up with about 100 keepers, all a little different. The light changed even in the few minutes we were there.

You did well. The reflections in the first and the inlet in the second add depth to the shot. You were busy for 5 minutes. 😉

    Meteora

This area in central Greece is known for its rock formations and perched monasteries. This is a favourite spot for sunset chasers, and there were maybe twenty or so people all taking selfies on the adjoining rock. Meanwhile a local stray dog was basking in the warmth from the rock heated during the day. I had to frame it with the dog a bit too close to the edge of the frame due to the other none-too-picturesque photographers.

It's the ones that don't shout Italy that I prefer, but then I don't know your intention.

This second one looks like Peter Rabbit gazing out over the cliffs 😁

Wonderful place! But only five minutes!! This last one does it for me with the foreground rocks. This is somewhere I recognise from my one trip to north america ten years ago. We hiked up onto one of the ridges on the SW side of the lake and sat watching the steamers plying up and down, but unfortunately Spirit Island was out of sight around a bluff.
